Dubinsky
Wolski
Boyle
Fedotenko

all deserve a shot before Avery - perhaps some others as well if they can play both sides.

Avery better worry about getting in the lineup period most nights.

I could see it happening. He'd add protection as well as skill. I agree with SBOB, rather see Boyle and I thing Boyle can do it and can perform the same role.

...But so does Dubi.

The old Avery, yes.

The new Avery, no.

unless one combo instantly catches fire (and stays on fire) I'm sure there will be a regular rotation of try-outs throughout the preseason including Avery, Dubi, Wolski, Feds, maybe even Rupp or MZA.

Although..... I think that if it were possible for Avery to put away his stupidity hat he's the type of player that's needed on that line. Someone that isn't afraid to go into the corners, can come out with the puck, and is a good passer from behind the net, as well as screening the goalie.

Downside: too many penalties and his shot looked terrible last year. To became, was never given a chance to gel last year.

Upside: Grit. Looked good in the corners when given a chance. Assisted more of gabi's goals than any other ranger (for real).

Agree that someone like him or Feds could make a ton of sense there, esP if we want tO keep dubi and Callahan together. Wolski wd really need to step up to earn the spot. Stepan and boyle are both intersting options.

So: I think it's actually a reasonable idea, but there are a lot of other possibilities.

I'm not even a blind Avery lover because I think he's not very good defensively, but he's very north-south style of player that suits Gaborik. He can also pass pretty well and absolutely has pretty good hands.

And I don't care what anyone says, teams bother with Avery far too much and leave their position to hit him JUST because the opposing crowds give it a huge reaction. If they are at all concerned about Avery, that leaves things open for Richards and Gabby.

I would not be absolutely shocked if this worked.

In Jagr's last year, I think our best line was definitely Avery, dubinsky, Jagr.
Ya and our best line he year after with Gomez and Drury still on the team was Dubi, Antropov and avery.

I hope it doesn't come to it, but if all else fails Avery will get his shot. He has had success with Jagr and Gaborik before, it's not like we would be throwing in a 3rd or 4th liner who hasn't played with that kind of talent previously.

But again, I hope Dubinsky/Wolski/whoever work out better, haha.

No, and hopefully he's off the team by the end of the year, if not by the end of training camp.

I don't think contract year means much for Avery. I think he's not interested in playing anymore, he has a bunch of other things going on in his life now.

Avery will play his fair share in that position.

That LW spot will be a revolving door.

Hopefully not for long.

Look, Avery is not an unskilled player, but his skills are not suited to a top-6 role. It's a skill line and you need someone on that line who can do all the things we generally are in agreement about (grit, corner work, etc) who also has legitimate top-6 skills. Avery's offensive skills will never be consistent enough to be that. (how many times can I use the word skill in three sentences? At least it drives home the point, though)

I think if either one of thinks the other is crazy, then that paritcular one of us is crazy.

Avery is a great possibility. He def showed his dig out skills.

Hell I'd rather he and Boyle play with Gaborik and have Richards bring out the true Wolski.

BAR line stays.

(before anything, I say to hell with the "first line, second line BS", because after all Marty McSorely WAS as good as Gretzky and Luc.)

Wolski-Richards-Fedotenko (Different role players should fit)
Avery-Boyle-Gaborik(was tried for 10 total minutes and looked nasty)
Anisimov-Dubinsky-Callahan (No brainer)
Prust-Rupp-Stepan (Pretty damn good lookin Checker line!)

Maybe switch Prust with Feds and/or Wolski and Gaborik.

Dubinsky, Dubinsky, Dubinsky. He's the perfect player for that unit. Wolski's a mongoloid when it comes down to back-checking or defensive coverage. I sure as hell don't want him on that line.

Say it with me fellows...

Dubinsky.
Dubinsky.

Dubinsky.

This is just terrible. All you're doing is trying to be creative with the lines. Richards isn't going to be centering two third-liners. Our entire second line isn't going to get demoted to the third line. We want Stepan as a full-time center, he shouldn't be playing Wing. He needs the Face-off experience now, so he's competent there tomorrow.

Dubinsky-Richards-Gaborik
Wolski-Anisimov-Callahan
Fedetenko-Stepan-MZA
Rupp-Boyle-Prust

Avery when on his game and using his brain is a very good player, athletic and has a great shot. No reason he couldn't play on the top line, that is other than the fact it's rare that he usually brings all three aspects of his game, to the same game....
