I'd rather Pronger be the captain now, than Giroux or whoever else be made the captain too early.

Shelley is more like a gallbladder or spleen. You can take it out and it will not effect the entire unit. But in Shelley's case, if you take him out, the team gets better. So I guess he is more of an appendix?

The team was pretty sweet before Shelley was on it, and his only purpose seems to be removing that. Shelley is the insulin that breaks down this team's sweet awesomeness.

Hence, pancreas. Lilja is the gallbladder.

Three (old timer) vets with letters was completely expected after the restructuring this off-season.

We all knew Pronger was going to be the vocal leader, so might as well give him the 'C'.

Between the comments and that picture, I'm really glad I wasn't drinking anything while reading this thread!

I would have picked Briere since he's not obnoxious.

What's wrong with Richards?

I don't know how he'll be able to have a successful career here if he was stripped of the C.

After going through this thread I NOW understand why Holmgren signed Lilja to a 2 year contract...to deflect the hate away from Shelley for a couple of years. Holmgren is one shrewd dude!

[2008]

Clarke: "Hey Homer, get in here."
Paul: "What is it Bobby?"
Clarke: "You see the papers? They're calling this kid the new me."
Paul: "Yeah, I saw, but what can we do about it? They all love him."
Clarke: "It's okay. Go ahead and name him captain. I have a plan. We're going to teach him a lesson. Murray took over for Burke in Anaheim right? Tell him I need to hire some 'veteran leadership.' There's no way I'm giving my team to some Mike Richards kid. Let him know we're prepared to throw a multitude of 1sts, 35+ contracts, and even the captaincy at this. While you're at it, get me the Canadiens. I hear that P.K. Subban is revolutionizing the true art of hockey in juniors."
Paul: "On it."
Clarke: "You know what. Call Panaccio too."
Paul: "Really?"
Clarke: "Yeah, I'm bringing out the big guns. It's time to squash a bug."

I think that's a good idea (Briere having the C). Pronger talks so damn much and is so sarcastic. Not that people don't take him seriously, but I would've liked to see Kimmo be the Captain. I always liked for respected guys who speak plainly and infrequently to wear the C. Those are the men who get people's attention when they speak. Chris Pronger is a bit too much of a troll and obviously has a healthy sized ego.
