Jesus, I knew Torts ran a tough camp, but I didn't realize it was that many sprinted laps. Anyone have any video of that? I would love to see any of our players do a 15 lap sprint.

Comments: Not the usual uncertainty of roster spots like previous years, but an upset or two can never be dismissed. A few positions on the bubble (3rd pairing D, 1 LW, 3 RW, Avery, Christ...). Redden will most likely report directly to Hartford. Need to add a protective goon (or two) in Hartford. Maybe McNaught gets a tryout there?

the work MDZ put in over the summer shows...he looks much bigger in the upper body...very interested to watch his camp/pre-season

Good signs. I think MDZ will impress during camp and win a spot on the team.

Staal - Girardi
McDonagh - Sauer
Erixon - MDZ

DZ worked hard on his shooting this summer, knowing he'll be more of a shooter if he plays on the PP given Brad Richards' presence.

Are we the only camp that starts this intense? I don't specifically follow any other camps directly but just from random twitter retweets and stuff like that I have gathered that a lot of teams are just scrimmaging.

What's the situation with Gaborik not skating today? I know why he wasn't there yesterday but today it's not obvious.

Hasn't Gaborik been held out of the conditioning tests for precautionary reasons the last two season too? Pretty sure he skipped the sprints both of his years as a Ranger. I think it was just a case of, "hey this guy has had groin problems in the past, so have him ride the bikes instead of taking any chances."

I saw footage of the Rangers when they went to a firehouse for 9/11, and Del Zotto looked bigger, bulkier, and more mature. He kind of looked like a lanky teenager before, it's good to see that he's coming into his own. It sounds like DZ put in a lot of hard work over the summer so if he wins a spot on the team it will be well-deserved.

The training camp when I played Juniors was a killer. We used to do an hour and a half off ice sprinting/plyometric session followed by an hour of sprints and Herbies on the ice sometimes with weight vests. After that they cut the ice and we went back on for an hour for drills and the last 20 minutes was a bunch of 3 on 3 type of games in the corners.

Last year yes but I assumed it was because he had some slight injury or concern about exacerbating it but I can't see Torts giving a free pass to any healthy player on the condition that that player is injury prone and "might" hurt himself doing his skating drills....

Gaborik will skate with the last group on the ice today. He got back to the NY area yesterday after spending 6 days in Slovakia.

Marian Gaborik says he will skate today, with the last group on the ice. Was doing off-ice work when Group 2 was on ice.

and:

Gaborik spoke at the memorial for his close friend, Pavol Demitra. Was in Slovakia for about six days. Skated there three times.

I feel so bad for Gabby. He lost 2 of his best friends in a matter of like 3 months.

As for LW for him and Richards, Gaborik says it's up to Tortorella. Winning keeps line intact but "You know how it is with the lines here."

Del Zotto is probably the player Im most looking forward to seeing what kind of progress he's made. Lots of positive reports that he's not only bulked up but that he's been training hard every day. If he comes into camp in great cardiovascular shape and has worked on his shot, the sky is the limit for him. He really does have the tools to be a 50+ point defenseman and he showed in his first year that he's not afraid of the physical play either. Two years later after putting on some muscle and refining his game make me really excited to see what he can add to this team.

Yea...well maybe if he scores in more than 15 of his games this year, his line might stay intact.

Anisimov on his MRI:

Artem Anisimov says left knee had been bothering him so doctor sent him for MRI for peace of mind "I wanted to do it"

&

Anisimov says he felt no pain during the skate today "I feel fine, no pain...I had some concern, but everything felt fine"

(from NYR twitter)

The extra muscle will help DZ in the corners and in front of the net but won't help his play with the puck. IMO, he needs to make better decisions with puck. That's what I'll be looking at during preseason.

Yeah but he probably has a zamboni pulling him around that lazy, soft, useless Euro!

Get it?! Because he's so soft! Nevermind the fact he scored 86 points!

Me too.... Maybe what happened last season was positive in the sense that he needed a major wake-up call to jump start him back on the upward path of developing as a player... I mean I would have preferred it played out in this manner rather than lets say, MDZ having played the entire season and had a below average or disappointing season... It seems he has really taken what happened to him to heart this off-season.... I bet being so young he's pretty receptive to the advise people around him are giving him... I really want to get a look at him and Richards on the point together...
