With the drills Torts has been running, i'd probly be glad to go lie still for 45 minutes for "peace of mind" as well.

Building strength has a 2-fold effect on a player's game, because not only do you benefit from the physical strength increase, but you also benefit from the increased mental confidence that accompanies it...

For MDZ, working on that is important because a huge dynamic of his game is his willingness to be physical. That adds another dimension to his game and different than a lot of other offensive d-men.

He really does have the tools to be a 50+ point defenseman and he showed in his first year that he's not afraid of the physical play either. Two years later after putting on some muscle and refining his game make me really excited to see what he can add to this team.
Slow down big fellow. It's not bulking up or improving his offensive skills that's important for DZ to survive, it's having a clue and not looking completely lost in the defensive zone that really matters. This is a make or break year for him in the sense that if he doesn't improve, he won't be here next year.

I'll betcha he doesn't get 40 goals, I also betcha he finds a way to miss 10-15 games.

You make it sound like he wants to find ways to play less games.

Get it?! Because he's so soft! Nevermind the fact he scored 86 points!
We are not into a history lesson here, we are only interested in "what have you done for us lately?"

No, I don't think he looks for ways to miss games, I just think gabby getting injured is kinda like "death and taxes"-it's inevitable. Oh well, maybe he'll surprise us by staying relatively healthy as well as deciding to play hard all the time and produce.

Hard to figure out who he's referring to here. No open slots on the offensive side of the puck, unless he's talking abut MZA taking a step forward this year. On D, he could be referring to Erixon and MDZ. I don't consider Sauer or Stepan prospects anymore.

I'd love to see some of Hagelin/Bourque/Weise/Valentenko/Kundratek do it.

I don't really count Erixon or Del Z at this point because they expect both to make the team.

The question really is; is Torts comfortable waiving certain guys (Avery, Christensen) or sending others to Hartford (Zuc)?

People will have their chances throughout the year.

Agreed. Perhaps Rupp is not penciled in just yet after all? Or maybe Avery might be out?
Interesting statement whatever he is thinking, and it will be exciting to see how things pan out!

Good to hear, I really like AA's motivation he's always talking about wanting to improve. Just seems like the kind of guy that doesn't believe in being "good enough" always wants to be better. Didn't he say he wants to be the best Russian player in the league haha might be tough Arty but go for it buddy!

Gross also expects that Wolski starts on the 1st line with the pack line remaining intact.

Sounds good. Wolski having a big year in his contract season could be integral to our team's standing. Having him on the first line successfully brings better balance to the other 3 lines. Skill, Skill/Checking, Checking/Skill, Checking.

Agreed. It's one of the X factors for this team in my opinion I have been pro W2 on the first line all summer. That 2nd line can do some damage as we saw last year, especially if they're not carrying the team.

Avery is in phenomenal shape; he killed all of the tests.

Why no sticky?

Anyways, I remember reading the exact same things about MDZ last training camp and he played bad. So, when he starts playing good hockey again, I'll believe he has turned the corner. Just because he looks really big now doesn't mean he can play hockey any better than last year.

Just wondering.

Is the training camp only place where the current roster players see our prospects?
Or are there any other common events or briefings where they can see or hear about their development?

Damn that Avery quote gets me excited.

The Gabby quote is very lukewarm.

How is that possible? All he does is party and fight cops! He forgot he's a hockey player, I thought.

Gotta love training camp. Everyone is full of optimism, everyone looks great in camp and everyone is saying the right things..... LOL

However, Game on once the real puck drops!

I'm really hoping Avery/DZ impress throughout training camp/pre-season.
