The Sharks are pretty much set on D this year, and I really doubt he could beat out Vandermeer or Braun for the 7th/8th spots.

I'd peg the Isles or Blues as his most likely destination, though they should hopefully only invite him for a tryout.

True, he might be able to beat out Huskins but he's on a one-way contract and with the Blues ownership situation I don't think they'll want to pay Huskins NHL money to play in Peoria. Plus I'd rather see Ian Cole as an injury replacement.

He's not going to get PP time.
as already pointed out, long island has no need for him.

That's really low. Laugh at our team for it's owner saving a buck on defense as much as you want because the organization deserves it until they do get a real top 4 added, but please don't suggest the club thinks someone like McCabe is a real top 4. He's done.

Nobody nis saying he's a real top 4 just that he'd be a top 4 on the isles.

As pointed out... By Garth Snow... NYI is after a top-4 capable d-man.

Question is whether or not he settles for McCabe. Horrible, steady, or somewhere in between, the guy can still play minutes.

No he isn't. Eaton is better than him, so he'd be in the top 4. Hell, paired with Streit, Wishart is a better option too.

But McCabe isn't capable of playing a top 4 role.

Take him.

Islanders have Rolston and Streit on the point for the power play. Rather have Eaton/Wishart/Jurcina/DeHaan on the top pairing instead of McCabe.

If McCabe actually signs here (or comes here on a tryout), its not to be a top 4 dman so it doesn't fill the void that Garth is still looking to fill. He would just be another veteran body playing 3rd unit minutes along with some pp time. But its all gonna be moot because he won't beat out Mottau and Wishart for that 6/7 spot.

Its time for him to retire. Not everyone can play until age 40.

I would say 3 years 15 million would get a deal done.

Um, Mottau and Wishart played 20 games each last season.

Hamonic is a kid. Eaton also played fairly little last season. Ditto Jurcina. And Streit was out for the year.

Um, how in the hell does McCabe not qualify for that team again?

I don't get how St. Louis makes no sense. McCabe's better than Huskins and they could use a PP QB. The Blues would like to play their young guys but if they aren't ready McCabe isn't a bad option to play bottom-pairing minutes.

McCabe's drastically deteriorated from what he used to be but he's not as useless as people think. The guy ate a lot of minutes (sometimes shouldn't have) last year. He wouldn't be a bad bottom-pairing guy for any team as long as he's paired with a younger puck-mover. At the very least someone should get him for his PP skills.

5 years and 60 million would also get the deal done. Just as many teams will pay that than what you're suggesting.

No real interest in seeing McCabe here. Maybe a few years ago, but now? His best before date got meet and beat quite some time ago.

Shouldn't go to Vancouver, he's going to play 2 games a season. And his stats will be revolting there, book it.

I don't think he makes zero sense, but he doesn't make much. They already signed Huskins to a one-way deal. Yea, they can eat that money and stuff him in the minors, but I don't see that happening.

The Blues' current six starters are:
Jackman-Pietrangelo
Nikitin-Polak
Colaiacovo-Shattenkirk
Extras: Huskins, Cole, Cundari, Syvret

McCabe, like Huskins, only cracks that when Jackman and/or Colaiacovo are hurt. And, yes, that's a big reality. Both are unlikely to play a full season. But Nikitin played very well in the second half of last year, as did Cole. I don't see Nikitin losing that spot and I'm willing to bet the Blues are not unhappy with Cole as their first injury call-up.

I can see McCabe mostly as a motivator for Nikitin, Huskins, and Cole. Create some really fierce competition for those last two spots and have extra depth (I guess by starting Huskins in the minors). Hell, I guess they could carry 8 defensemen, too.

So, I'm not against it and I don't think it's complete nonsense, but it'd be a marginal move; and I'm betting it's more like they're inviting him to camp as an experiment and if he plays well, they'll give him a contract and shove around Huskins and/or Nikitin a bit.

He's not a top 4 anymore. If people believe he is then they haven't seen him lately. Guys a third pairing d-man and I wouldn't want him facing the opposing teams top 6. If he were still the McCabe from years back he'd be signed by now. Think about it.
