Parise for Doughty straight up would work (Provided both teams had locked both guys up long-term) as it would solve a need that both teams have.

I won't presume to speak for Devils fans, but I'd probably pull the trigger on this one as a Kings fan. One aspect about the trade I personally like is that it moves Bernier out east, so if he "hits," it won't hurt quite so bad...

Kings wouldn't do it. They'd fill a hole at 1st line wing, but they'd lose their #1 D-man. Devils would need to add, but I don't think Larsson is something the Devils plan to contribute to negotiations.

But they're not, and they won't be. NJ doesn't need Doughty locked up long term, btw.

Parise and Larsson for Doughty and Schenn could have worked better. Ah well.

Even then I'd be hesitant.

I think the Devils would do it, they need someone to replace Brodeur soon. Parise's a UFA after this year though, I don't know if I would if I were LA.

I prefer Tendenby over Merill here.
There is nothing wrong with Merill but i want an offense prospect of Tendenby calibre.
Our defense is really stacked.

So switch Merill with Tendenby and we have a deal

Maybe if you took out the first.

Trading Parise and Tedenby guts our offense.

Ya, Tedenby is the one who will step into a top 6 LW role if Parise gets traded and Elias loses effectiveness or retires. I don't think we could afford to trade both him and Parise in the same deal.

Devils overpaying in this proposal should both Parise and Doughty be signed, they're also not in financial trouble.

It's not overpayment if they don't surrender Larsson.

There can't be a deal where NJ trades both Tedenby and Parise unless some forward is coming back in return.

LW is our greatest asset at present, so I sort of disagree with that assessment.

After the trade though, the Devils LW depth would be Kovalchuk and a 35 year old Elias, who despite looking almost ageless, can't play forever and is currently playing center.

Yes, but the only reason anybody would be comfortable trading Parise is because we'd still have Tedenby and Kovalchuk for the LW after Elias leaves or loses effectiveness. If both Tedenby and Parise are traded, suddenly that area of strength becomes an area of weakness.

Wingers are a dime a dozen, so finding a solid replacement at the deadline would be pretty easy to do quite honestly. The Pens have been doing just that for the past couple of years since they have depth galore down the middle. I rather try and pick up a pending free agent winger instead of selling the farm for a top pairing d-men. As I said in the past, wingers aren't that hard to find but blueliners and centers are quite the opposite.

If Parise, Tedenby and prospect/pick are the price to pay to land Doughty and Bernier... I wouldn't think twice about it taking into consideration that we can have Doughty and Larsson patrolling our blueline for the next decade and IK as our #1 LW'er.

I'll take a boosted blueline over boosted wingers any day of the week.

In any case, superstars almost never get traded for each other. It's just too big a risk, too big a chunk of a team's identity being shipped out in the trade, and being replaced with an unknown quantity.

I don't mind Parise and Tedenby for Doughty and Bernier, it would fill needs for both teams. This would only work if both Parise and Doughty were signed, though.

That would work just fine. I would think that the Kings would want Merrill because he is a bit better prospect than Teddy by all accounts and could work as a solid duo with Forbort.

That trade would kill us on the wings but something like:

Kovy - Zajac - Palmeri
Elias - Josefson - Zubrus

Would hopefully work similar to what we had the 2nd half of last year. But,

Merrill - Doughty
Volchenkov - Larsson
Tallinder - Urbom

Going forward would more than make up for it.

Then why did you post the Larsson-Parise "proposal" in your condensed Doughty trade thread? No Devil fan is going to agree with those terms, least of all Lou.

Tedenby and Parise for Doughty and Bernier would be a done deal, though. Makes our LW situation kind of ******, but my god we can just draft more.

That's a Stanley Cup contending top four.

Yea thinking about it, it reminds of Ottawa's old D. Merrill has drawn some comparisons to Redden. Doughty is a different player but will be at a similar level to Chara, maybe a even better if he keeps on improving, and the A-train is still the A-train. The only thing would be I hope that Larsson turns out better than Phillips.

Ottawa never had a defensive specimen as good as Doughty, though. He is the difference maker, and the reason why we should acquire him, signed or not.

Honestly, the Larsson-Phillips comparison is probably worse than the Sami Salo one that TSN provided on draft day, but I know what you're saying. It's easier to compare that corps to one of the Devils old d-core. Doughty is comparable to Niedermayer, as far as I am concerned. Volchenkov and Larsson together would be like having Stevens again, and Merrill could be Brian Rafalski reincarnated.
