Correct.

We were discussing the actual physical mechanisms involved in the actions/movements/impacts of the brain and interior skull, during collisions/hits.

The resulting wounds and damage occur as you described them. Brain functions are affected from the damage/wounds/bruising to the brain. Depending on the severity of the wounds/damage, and location of the wounds/damage on the brain itself; one could have a wide variety of brain function impairments, difficulties and maybe long term damage. PCS really is a bizzare and difficult thing to live with and go dat to day with.

Somebody is going to have to carry his minutes in Sweden.

Did the Rangers know about these headaches "all summer"?

Was the Erixon move a no brainer after Slats and Co. was given this info or did it have nothing to do with the trade at all??

Have a feeling that the bragged about defensive depth on this team will be tested this season.

Well our defense was relatively injury free all season, compared to our offense. Not hoping for a reverse of that.

smh

I'll be circling Carolina on my calender.
I want Rupp, Avery, Prust to rough up Eric.

At the time I thought it was dirty hit.

a completely unnecessary hit, especially coming from his brother. he could have easily just taken the puck away in that situation.

I'm hoping this is all precautionary.

Many Rangers fans thought Staal may have been concussed after the Staal-on-Staal hit on February 22. It wasn't until over a month later on March 24 that he passed the baseline test.

Do we know if they gave Staal a baseline test in February right after the hit? Crosby wasn't given a baseline test after the Steckel collision and we all know what happened there... he suffered another hit to the head in the next game and he hasn't been back since. Marc's knee injury ended up being a blessing a disguise because he missed the next 3 games following the hit.

You can't possibly be serious? Staal is a very good, defensive defenseman. However, there is no reason this team with Richards and the maturation of the young core can't win a ton of games without him.

Girardi also becomes much worse without Staal by his side.

The fact that they are "targeting Oct. 8th" is very concerning. Hopefully he recovers in time for the season to start, but this is something that can't be rushed.

Really hope this isn't anything serious.

Lol.

But in all seriousness, what im suggesting isn't anything radical. Its mandating equipment that's already used.

Shields, wrist guards, mouth guards, and throat guards.

After the Zednik incident, people shrug off throat guards?

After what happened to the linesman (his name escapes my memory) during a Rangers game, taking a skate to the face that altered his life and nearly died.

And broken wrists that could easily be avoided.

Broken teeth that could be avoided with a mouth guard.

They just want to wait until there IS a death to do something.

This reminds me of how outlandish the concept of goaltenders using masks was... or players wearing helmets...

They're small things, and if it prevents your top players from missing important games, then why not?

So let me get this straight. They KNEW of a concussion in February, and allowed him to play 25 minutes per night regardless?

I guess Del Zotto's performance becomes increasingly important here, to say nothing of Erixon. Those two may both have to be ready sooner than later.

This is what worries me more than anything.

How do you let someone play a contact sport who was diagnosed with a concussion?

I don't read it that way. I have a feeling that he tested fine after the ~3 or whatever games he missed, but it reoccured during offseason training. I think it is much harder to turn a blind eye to concussion symptoms now with the attention from Crosby.

He was out for 3 games after the hit and probably was OK after that. They're saying the symptoms came back this summer

I have a feeling the Rangers had no clue he even suffered a concussion until he missed 2 games in late March for "undisclosed reasons." I think Torts referred to it as a "body injury." Staal passed the baseline test a few days later on March 24.

The 3 games Staal missed immediately after the hit was due to the knee injury and not a concussion. Unless the Rangers were trying to cover up the concussion with a knee injury, but I'm pretty sure Staal tweaked his knee before that game and the hit re-aggravated it.

Seriously? It was a clean, solid, and not particularly vicious hit because M. Staal had his head down. Brother or not, that's just physical hockey and as a Canes fan, wish Eric would play that way more often. It wasn't a hit to the head and I would guess Marc's injury came when he hit the ice.

That said, I really hope Marc doesn't miss any time. I'm a fan of his, think he is one of the better all around defensemen out there, and enjoy watching him.

Then why did he go for baseline testing a month after the hit? Seems to me he was having some symptoms if they tested him.
