Well, we signed Kris Draper for a dollar, think we could get Weimer for a nickle?

To be honest, Washington can't afford that.

Maybe if it was counterfeit, but in that case, I would accept nothing less than a fake $20.

$950 000/season. It's definitely a difficult salary to move given his poor play so far this season. Luckily, it's not exactly crippling and he can just be stuffed in the press box for most of the season...

Gelinas for Weimer, lol.

Florida gets younger, grittier. Gelinas goes back where he belongs.

Salaries even out perfectly.

I'll never understand why the Flames let Gelinas walk for Weimer

If I really really wanted him I would just wait till Calgary puts him on waivers.

Wiemer was signed before the 04-05 season. Gelinas probably could have stuck around Calgary if he wanted to, but Sutter made it clear that Iginla and Kiprusoff had to get dealt with first. Gelinas got a good offer from the Panthers, and you can't fault him for taking it.

However, it is Amonte that effectively replaces Gelinas, not Wiemer. I suppose you could say Wiemer replaces Oliwa.

You'll never understand it, because it never happened.

Is Wiemer really making just shy of a million. Ouch!

The problem is more likely that the Capitals know all too well how bad Chris Simon can be during the regular season in these, the twilight years of his career. You haven't begun to see Simon dog it out there until you see him in January/February. It's a sight to behold. Chris Clark has fit in nicely as a stopgap, but that's the only grinding Flame this rebuilding team really needs to add, or has the room for on the roster.

They're tanking anyway and giving their prospects ice time. No reason for Washington to take time away from Brian Sutherby and Boyd Gordon, who are developing nicely. Payroll is well above the floor.

Not exactly a good marketing strategy for your trade ambitions...

I seem to be in the minority of people who like what Weimer can bring. However, he's gone through so many teams in such a short period of time though you have to wonder if there's a problem or something. I really don't know, but it is odd for a guy to switch teams 6 times in 10 seasons when he brings that much toughness and size to your lineup.

He's a really big guy who's very strong and likes to play physical. In the old NHL it seems those were qualities that were a little more valuable. Still, I think he can be a very good asset on the 4th line, maybe even on the 3rd line. With that being said, with a salary of just shy of 1 million, you can do better than a 4th liner.

Calgary should hold onto him though. There's no need to overreact after 3 games. If he's still looking bad in December maybe get rid of him, but right now he's still got a chance to turn it around and play his game.

I agree, these trade everyone posts are just plain stupid. Its only 4 games, I would think the Flames will wait to see how the teams does after 10 games or so.

If you read Phil Esposito's book you will realize there is.
