Is Yemelin already the most important D-Man on this team ?

After a few days of watching this guy skate I started thinking about a simple point.

Which player on this team will make it absolutely unbearable for the opposing forwards to charge Price's net.

Through all of last year, Carey price was the one to brutalize opposing forwards, guys like Hal Gill, PK Subban and Roman Hamrlik ( lets not start with Spacek and the rest ) were more gentle shovers, but not one of these guys had the cojones to tell the opposition '' step in the blue paint and your ass is mine ''

Looking at Yemelin it makes me realize we haven't had an evil SOB in this lineup for quite some time and the more I look at this kid play the more I realize he's one evil hockey player.

What do you guys think ?

I do get he might be a kind of defenseman we've been missing for years..

But let's take it in stride, okay? Come back after half a season before saying something like that.

Oh yes, definitely best D on the team already. Possibly even the league...

I think you have been in serious hockey withdrawal and that's why you're acting this way. After a few exhibition games you'll be alright and making saner comments: like Gallagher will break Gretzsky's records.

I have no idea how a guy who hasn't even made the team yet can be the most important D-man on the team, but OK...

Send a message via MSN to Rise from the Ashes
He is definitely an extremely important player for several reasons: 1: Markov is hurt; 2: the loss of Roman Hamrlik.

I know if he does make this team he will be a physical force I get that, but not matter how physical he is he will not be the most important dman on our team. Say hi to Pk Subban and Andrei Markov. If you are stricly speaking about players driving the crease than maybe you have a point he seems like he does not take any **** from anyone. But lets no get ahead of ourselves here, he has not played a single game in the NHL. Not even an exhibition game. He certainly has the potential to be a force in the corners and after the whistle blows if Carey is messed with. Or if anyone is messed with for that matter. Lets just wait and see though

For now, let's just hope he can be a solid top 4 for the Habs.

I think you're gone way overboard. However, I think he'll be an important player and you're right, he'll be hated by the opposition. He's been compared to Darius Kasparaitis but Yemelin is bigger and more skilled offensively. It's my impression that we'll see his heavy hitting more often along the boards (including in the neutral zone) than in the crease.
