Dal - Clb

Receive:

Antoine Vermette

Receive:

Mark Fistric

2012 2nd Round Pick

Columbus gets a hard-hitting, solid defenseman who could get better and become a top 4 defensive defenseman. He won't get much playing time here, and has a much better chance to thrive in Columbus. If he doesn't work out, they still have a mid-range 2nd round pick, which isn't bad at all.

Dallas completes their top 6, with a guy who will compliment Benn and Eriksson very nicely. Ott gets bumped down to the third line where he belongs, but is definitely the replacement in case of injury. He could return back to 20-30-50 form playing with these two guys, and still helps out even if he doesn't.

Thoughts?

No thanks, we like our top 6 the way it is.

Not enough. Columbus has no one to shelter Fistric and Vermette is crucial to them.

I think Columbus would be looking for an immediate upgrade to the top-4.

Center is a position of strength (seemingly) at the moment. For the first time in our history, but until Johansen has proven he is ready for the NHL and Brassard has shown he has taken one more step I can't see dealing away Vermette. He can swing from C to W, great at faceoffs, reasonable D 5 0n 5, good PK and an extended contract. Just don't seem him going out the door.

If Daley waives, I'd do it. Sure, it weakens the defense, but we could see some of the young guys in a top 4 role with Robidas, and who knows what could happen then.

Vermettes a potential 60 point top 6 and we have a bunch of PMDs coming through the system. Then again I'm not as high on Daley as some are.

I'd personally like to see Benn and Ribeiro as Dallas' top 2 centers.

The difference between Fistric and Vermette is more than a 2nd round pick.

Columbus gets hosed and a team in a win now mode isn't interested in picks to even up a trade. About the only player Columbus might consider is Goligoski, and that's only at the trade deadline or next summer if Johansen proves he is ready this season.

There is no way anyone gets Vermette, a proven two way #2 center for a depth defender with 2nd pairing upside and a pick.

That's the equivalent of Kris Russell and a 2nd round pick for Mike Ribiero.

I get that I was undervaluing him, but not that much.

Goligoski? Seriously? A top pairing defenseman for a second line guy? Absolutely not. Daley and a second, or maybe Larsen instead, as he'd make an instant impact with you guys, and is a PMD (what you need, I believe).

That any better?

Oh, and my proposal wasn't that bad. It wasn't great, but nothing like that.

This is all pointless. Columbus already has Tyutin, Methot, Martinek, and Wizniewski, they don't need more second pairing defensemen, and I doubt they're going to trade Vermette for more second pairing guys.

I don't think the value is terrible. Just that this doesn't really help Columbus at all right now(which is what matters). The way Russell and Savard are playing in training camp, Fistric could end up a healthy scratch.
