The fact that VV is a right handed shot should give him the inside edge in pairing him with Mitchell.

Kind of hoping in a couple of preseason games they all get a brief (~half game?) tryout paired with Mitchell and then Scuderi to see if any of those 5 click together...

Problem I see with Voinov at Hickey as well is that if it's either of them that makes the team then one of the Johnson, Martinez,Hickey or Voinov has to play significant time on the PK... Same with Muzzin, if it's him that makes it, then he'll Mitchell, Scuderi, Muzzin, or Greene have to play on the PP...

I'm not a fan of making judgments after 2 days, and especially considering they haven't done a ton a game situation work, but I think it's fun to point out that Bernier looked better than Quick both days so far.

That's because he is.

JQ has the experience but JB is the goalie with the higher ceiling.

The Kings only need 1 maybe 2 defensemen to play the PP. Richards as well as everyone's favorite PP QB/#2 center can also manage.

ye none of the defensive Dmen need to play pp.

Voynov/JJ/A-Mart/Richards/Stoll can all play point

I wonder if Kings Vision plans on streaming any preseason games, I remember last season they did one and were planning to do another but it got cancelled at the last minute.

If they can show the ice crew auditions in their entirety I should think a preseason game would be doable.

No... Kitsyn's currently playing out the remaining 2 years of his contract in the KHL for Metal. The season started last week and he's played in 2 of the 3 games registering 1 assist in 2 contests with an average TOI 11.56 min.

Johnson - Scuderi
Mitchell - Voynov/Hickey/Muzzin
Martinez - Greene
if DD is absent for an extended period of time then we will see one of the three (most likely - would like to see DesLauriers get in there also). not only will someone step into the roster slot, but i also expect that TMu will flip the D lines a bit to help 'ease' the new guy in. no need to put Mitchell/X out as the first D pairing. Muzzin at least has a few games under his belt, but realistically all three are void of NHL experience. TMu will have to shuffle TOI and situations when Willie and the new guy are out there.

at the same time i won't be surprised to see DD44 in the line-up and paired with Mitchell. sort of a 'every other game' mentality for the new guy at first. play a game, get experience, sit a game and watch, evaluate....rinse and repeat.

Have some consideration KingLB. I was actually eating lunch when I read your post and now I have lost my appetite.

But knowing Kompon that is exactly what will happen if DD doesn't sign. The Kings will probably feature a PP of Kopitar, Brown, Richards, Johnson and STOLL. #1 franchise center, three Olympians and our #3 center! Lets not be shocked when those three guys are standing around watching as Kopitar lobs one-timers to Stoll just like the PK'ers have been playing the Kings to do for three years.

The drop-off from Doughty to Stoll on the PP will be 1000x bigger than the drop-off from DD to Voynov or whoever wins the position battle. Special teams are just such a huge aspect of the league these days.

The Kings’ exhibition schedule gets underway on Wednesday with two games against the Phoenix Coyotes, one at Staples Center and one at Jobing.com Arena. The split-squad games give a chance for 40 players to get game action in one night. Here’s the Kings’ rosters for both games. The specific players have been announced. The line combinations and defensive pairings are only my projections. [NOTE: The game at Staples Center will be broadcast on 1150-AM and affiliates. There is no TV/webcast for any preseason games.]

GAME ROSTER AT STAPLES CENTER

Gagne-Richards-Brown
Clifford-Stoll-Parse
Nolan-Loktionov-Hunter
Kaunisto-Cliche-Meckler

Scuderi-Johnson
Drewiske-Voynov
Muzzin-Hickey

Quick
Jones

GAME ROSTER AT PHOENIX

Penner-Kopitar-Williams
Richardson-Lewis-Westgarth
Moreau-Clune-Kozun
King-Azevedo-Toffoli

Martinez-Greene
Mitchell-Campbell
Kolomatis-Mullen

Bernier
Zatkoff
Intersting setup with the top 2 lines in each game. Could be the future lineup of the Kings.

Penner-Kopitar-Williams
Gagne-Richards-Brown
Clifford-Stoll-Parse
Richardson-Lewis-Westgarth

i saw his name get mentioned in an article the past few days. cant remember though if his name was mentioned by a fan or by the team. the reference though was to not dismiss him from the race with VV, ND, JM, TH. many see this as a three horse race between Voynov, Muzzin and Hickey; but Deslauriers and Campbell are the long shots not to be forgotten

Wow, that first line-up has 5 guys who play the point on the PP (Richards, Stoll, JJ, VV, Hickey), while that second line-up has only 1 guy (Martinez). Who "planned" this?

I suppose either Kozun or Toffoli might be able to play the point, but we'll just have to see.....

Campbell is intriguing because he could very easily be a Barret Jackman type late bloomer that turns into a very solid NHLer at around 26. He has improved almost ever year he's been in Manchester and I've seen no reason to doubt that he could be good but I jsut don't see it now. I really see it as a Voinov, Hickey, Muzzin race with ND having a very, very outside chance at the spot...

I really think it's more a matter of putting the main three in the same game against the same oppisition with no support to see if one rises to the occassion, while Campbell gets paired with Mitchell in hopes that some of his game rubs off and helps Campbell continue to grow. If you look at the rosters for the games Voinov, Hickey, Muzzin seem to be on their own per se while Campbell seems to be protected around a solid (if unexperienced) other 5 d-men.

Oh and a line of King-Azevedo-Toffoli is making me drool about seeing that in Manchester in a year...

Toffoli isn't eligible for Manchester this year. If he doesn't make it in the NHL, he has to go back to juniors.
