He will be on the post-season roster, and that's why he's playing now. Howard is out with a cortisone shot, someone needs to play first base for a few days, why not get your veteran bench 1B to get some ABs in some meaningless games?
I know we'd rather go into the playoffs on a high note, but I think as fans we're going to be reading too much into how the team does over the next two weeks of mostly meaningless games.
I'm more concerned with the individual performances of Hamels and Bastardo then I am with the team's record over the rest of the season.

I think Hamels will be fine, he knows what makes him effective. I agree on Bastardo; his issue before this season was control, and it appears to have come back all of a sudden with little time to fix it. Also, who else do we throw out there if we need an inning? A leaky Stutes? Lidge? ...Herndon? That is even more scary.

Ugh, I know. I think if we need to take a starter out before the 7th we should let Worley pitch the 7th and 8th. The good thing about having 3 of Kendrick, Worley, Blanton, and Oswalt in the pen is that you can use one or two of them in the back end because the long relief is still covered.
You just want them coming in to start the inning and not coming in with men on.
i think the flyers should stage an intervention with the phillies and let them know that the "switch" theory doesn't work
I support this notion... So does this mean we're making "Flip the Switch" avatars for the Phillies as well? Perhaps we simply picked the wrong team last time?
Flyers score more goals in a regulation pre-season game than the Phils score runs in 19 innings over 2 games today. If it weren't for Raul's HR the Phils would've been shut out in a double header. Offensive slump worries me.
As long as they dont all keep slumping together I think they will be fine. I think Pence, Howard, and Victorino will step up in October. You can always count on Chooch. I expect nothing from Utley right now and i dont know what to expect out of Polanco and JRoll. Their is good news about Bastardo, he is allegedly tipping his pitches which they said is easily correctable. This would give them an 8th inning man and now Lidge wouldnt have to pitch the 8th.

I know why you say this and I completely agree, but Lidge has been extremely effective at coming in and putting out fires just as Bastardo had done all year. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Lidge in spots where Stutes could be used before, because I don't think his leakiness can be corrected as easily as Bastardo's.

Lidge has been very good recently but Im always scared when comes into the game. Idk about Stutes, he seems to have hit a wall.
So they've had a chance to cement their names in Phillies history and rewrite the record books yet can't pull their heads out of their ***** since winning the division and have, instead, become a part of history you don't want to have anything to do with. If they go on to win the world series everyone forgets this, but if they don't, it's pathetic.
