Yea, I don't really want to see him on the big club yet, he is just gonna get pushed off the puck or hurt.

I thought he looked OK in the rookie game. He has some skills.

From the camp and Rookie game he's not quite ready.

Does this mean that Nylander will be making the team?

Were you watching the same rookie game? Honest assessment? He was soft, afraid of the corners and weak on the puck. If he were playing against NHLers this wouldnt be an issue, but he was playing against other young prospects. I was disappointed.

Only way that happens is if we trade someone as we are at the 50 contract max I believe.

Count me in as also being unimpressed by Cooter at the rookie game.

He seemed relatively slow, and easily pushed off the puck. He's got some work to do.

Nope that's not the case. Even most articles say it's either Couturier or Nylander right now.

One looks like he's not NHL ready and the other looks like he still has NHL level play left in him.

Are you sure?

I'm 90% sure you're wrong.

We were at 51 contracts with Noebels (I think it was him) sliding when he went back to junior. Lehitviouri (sp?) was let go and was immediately replaced by the signing of Blake Kessel. 50 contracts.

I'm fairly certain that if we want to sign anyone else, we have to lose a contract.

Capgeek is showing 52 (but still has Lehitvouri on there). So I think we're full.

How long before people start calling Couturier a bust? I give it until late November (regardless of whether or not he is on the big club).

And those people will need a severe beat down.....all I know is I don't want Couturier to be stunted development wise like we did with Zubrus...

Get Couturier back with his junior team. Get him set up with a training regimen and start putting on muscle. Let him dominate juniors for another year, like Claude Giroux. Let him have an another offseason to train and prepare for camp. I'm not going to be upset if he doesn't make it. Give him some time.

Agree 100%. Couturier can't make the jump right yet and really nobody should expect him to.

I think that's the general consensus. It would be great if he came in and played well enough to make the team, but if he doesn't it would be neither surprising nor disappointing. It won't benefit him to play third line wing (assuming he switched instead of say, Schenn) and be constantly manhandled and make poor plays. If he can hang, he can hang. If he can't, he can't. He really isn't needed this season, especially if he is not as good as another option, even that other option is not as flashy or highly touted.

I agree with your point about him not being needed this season as of now......I think he just needs more physical development, and more seasoning from what little i have seen and heard about him etc...The skill set is there in spades, but being " strong" on the puck is required in the NHL and he needs to develop that...Looking forward to seeing him play tonight.

I think you mean its between Schenn and Nylander if anything. Couturier wasn't even practicing with the A squad at camp. the lines were as follows

JVR - Giroux - Jagr
Hartnell - Briere - Voracek
Talbot - Nylander / Schenn - Simmonds
Shelley - Betts - Nodl / Mair

No Couturier on the ice with those guys.

I like that we have some logical fans. Why anyone thought he had a chance to make this team with this depth out the gate is beyond me. We drafted him and knew all about his size and weak play in the corners, which is why he will develop in Jrs as he should. My assumption is 2 years in Jrs, Hartnells contract expires and Couturier is his replacement.

No way he's ready. Way underdeveloped as of now. He needs to be taken slowly, but he will be a beast someday. I only saw the rookie game though. I wish people would post some more practice footage. Be nice to see all these new knuckle nuts we got in action. Tonight aint comin quick enough.
