I know it's preseason against half the Leafs but our young players look really good. Schenn, Read, Testwuide, Sestito, Rinaldo, Simmonds all look really good.

I've seen enough of Betts, Shelley, Nodl. Some of these young guys like Read, Sestito, Rinaldo, etc. deserve a chance. Betts and Shelley just cannot skate well enough for this league anymore.
I LOVE Betts and it kills me to say this but you may be right. Although Bettsy is a great PKer and shot blocker.

I won't hate Bryz, but the signing and what came with it.
Altough seeing Simmonds, Schenn and Couturier play like the have is somewhat overshadowing.

Yeah. I think they should of signed Bryz to a 3 or 4 year contract. Let Bob grow and let him take over. He will be too expensive to be a backup so he has to leave which i don't want either.

Rinaldo making the team may not be a bad thing, one more body to play ahead of Shelley

Bobrovsky has looked impressive. Composed and smart in net.

Read has shown some good all-around ability.

Ditto for Simmonds, except he showed some terrific hand-eye coordination on that deflect.

Great cycle by Carle, Couturier, and Testwuide on that one goal.

Carle is moving the puck well and getting involved offensively. Utilizing his strengths.

Gustafsson is being a solid anchor. Composed, quiet, and making solid passing plays.

Schenn's line has been shining bright tonight.

I noticed Voracek have one terrific backcheck and one terrific pass on that goal by Rinaldo.

Rinaldo hasn't killed anyone and he's showing some speed and hands.

Exactly why I wanted Vokoun. An elite goalie for the short term with a Bob in his prime to take over afterwards.

Ok, just so we are clear: you are not allowed to complain about Carter sucking/always being injured in the playoffs. I can maybe (no, not really) understand those who think he doesn't use his size enough, but to say that he wasn't in front of the goal. What the hell?

Sorry, I am a bit *****y tonight.

Positives from the game so far:
Bobrovsky is looking really calm and at ease in goal
Simmonds is having a great game
Read is being very creative and has no problem keeping up with the speed so far.
Sestito uses his size well (he looks a little slow though)
Voracek had a really nice pass to Rinaldo's goal
defense from guys like Gustafsson and Bartulis. They are both pushing for the last spot.

and without having the greatest game exactly, our Schenn is better than their Schenn

Rinaldo isn't a Shelley type player. Rinaldo is more of a Carcillo and for that reason I doubt he makes the Flyers team this year.

Very true. I guess it just seems like I've been watching and stewing over Carter for eternity. Plus I'm old and I struggle to remember the good ol' days.

Look beyond that.

His technique and poise in the crease is a huge improvement from last year. He was erratic and flopping around like a fish in the crease last year.

But he isn't on Bryz level yet. He is making strides though.

Bob is having a fantastic game. He looks so much bigger in the net. Clearly been working all off-season on not going down early, and staying upright in net.

On another note, you can't lose Betts from the team, and Talbot is a lock. So at the moment you are looking at

JVR - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Briere - Jagr
xxxx - Schenn - Simmonds
Betts - xxxxx - Talbot

So you only have two spots going. You have to presume Nodl is making the team after his performance last year, which could mean that there is one spot up for grabs. With the way they were talking up Read, it could be him on the third line. Sestito looks like a solid player though, and has massive size.

I agree that Betts was the player you describe two seasons ago and maybe for some of last season. If his shoulder has drastically improved then I'm with you - but if it hasn't and he can't win draws... and if he's even a microsecond slower - then I'm for sacrificing his leadership and defensive presence for guys that can fly around for 3 periods and really take advantage of Laviolette's system. It just seemed to me last season that the Flyers would play this new system and really grind down the opposition defense - then in comes the 4th line to give them a breather. I know it isn't all Betts' fault but that 4th line was on the ice for a lot of goals against.

I agree there is no guarantee that Shelley is on this team next season. I actually think he gets waived after camp.

I still don't understand the hate on Nodl though. The young players look good, but have made mistakes. However it looks as if our system is better than most people perceive.

It is what it is. With Bob the proof will be in the pudding but he will most likely be leveraged in a trade for the playoff stretch run and then Hovinen will take Bob's spot.....

Rinaldo will make the team if he continues to prove himself in preseason.

We need that physical element. He hits like a truck. In Lavys system he could thrive with his speed and hitting ability.

Yes I'm a dreamer and Shelley is my nightmare.....the fact is that the team seems to value him so I doubt he'll be replaced outright although he should.

Are you calling Nödl old? If so, gtfo from my lawn you little punk!

I'm old...

Read is older than Nödl btw.

I wouldn't mind seeing the likes of Shelley, Betts and Nödl lose their spots because our rookies have great camps, but let's not just give them the spots because they are new and shiny.

I doubt he gets moved this year. We don't have much cap space to get a decent player. Other players will have to be involved.
