Nodl does have speed, in last year's skills competition he was the team's fastest skater. JVR was second:

You know that is a skills competition right? Scott Hartnell won the shooting contest. Now Hartnell is not a slouch but I dont think you can say Hartnell is our top sniper.

I'd be 100% fine with this actually. I would switch Betts and Talbot since Betts is a legit center but other than that I think that would be fine.

I think his shoulder might be touchy, and his faceoff% was down last season.

Eh, Talbot isnt a center though. Yea his stats look above 50% but thats because he barely takes faceoffs.

That 4th line would be nice since Nodl has no offensive upside and can focus soley on defense with Betts and Talbot. They can provide grit and defense while Schenn, Simmonds, and Read can provide offense and play two ways. Read would be pretty unaffective on a forechecking line.

That was my thinking. I was actually planning ahead, hoping Read-Schenn-Simmonds could develop chemistry and maybe be the 2nd line a few years down the line.

That would be nice, but Im gonna slow down abit and wait to see if Read makes the team first But after his play tonight, you can see why they like him. Even BSH which had a few articles downplaying him had positive things to say.

I have to ask, could this not have been the kind of start we wanted throughout this turbulent off-season? We win 4-0. A shut out. Our higher rookies did well and Bob looks better than before.

I agree with that. But im also worried about starting two rookies on the same line together. I feel teams will try to take advantage of that

I know some people like Read, but if Couturier does get signed:

JVR-Giroux-Jagr
Hartnell-Briere-Voracek
Couturier-Schenn-Simmonds
Rinaldo/Sestito-Talbot-Nodl
Rinaldo/Sestito

Looked very good IMO. I had read some Flyer fans opinions before tonight, sounding disappointed. I was very impressed. Great poise for his age and he did a lot of little things right that perhaps the casual fan wouldn't notice.

Still early, but my first impression was you guys stole him at 8. Reminds me a bit of Jordan Staal.

The Leafs are really going to be terrible

You forgot Talbot. I'll be upset if Betts isn't the 4th line C, at least for the start of the season. I think/hope the only guy that might be replaced is Shelley.

Forget the NHL team for a second, I'm excited just to see the Phantoms team in action this year. Not all of these guys can make the NHL team after all.

Phantoms could do some serious damage.

The sky is the limit with no Idiot Stick running the team. Now lets never mention him again

Imagine alternating or replacing Hartnell with Read and dropping him down to the checking line of Hartnell-Talbot-Nodl, that would be the best scoring 4th line we've ever had.

Bobrovsky, Simmonds and Read were the guys who really stood out tonight IMO.

Sestito looked like he was 7 feet tall and weighs 450 pounds out there, my goodness.

It certainly made the ulcers hurt a lot less for a night. Bob did look stellar last night, and I like how the Flyers handled the play most of the night.

I've got to say, too, what a nice move Rinaldo put on Reimer to open the scoring.

Did anyone else see Timmy's tweet thatsaid:

"Read is going to make this team. And he won't be 13th F. Someone loses a job"

His opinion or inside info? I for one hope he is right. I really like what I see from Read.
