Haha, yeah. Everytime he gave them his "Next time you're in dark alley, I'm breaking both your legs" look.

Woywitka will be useful as the 3rd PMD backup, if we have injuries with Markov, Subban, Weber, Diaz or Yemelin. We only need 2.5 PMD on the roster at a time, and he proved he isn't totally useless. He just needs to know our system better.

He ain't great, but could prove to be a reliable backup.

Picard v.2. That's it.

Gill should had retire and Hamrlik should had been re-signed. Long season to forecast on D !

Weber played tons of minutes last night, against good players most of the time, and while he got beat a few times, I think he showed he belongs to the NHL. The truth is that he will play third pairing minutes during the season, so I think he's ready to be a regular in that regard. I loved the takeaways he did against Morrow at one point, showing surprising strength behind the net.

It's just one game, but I think Diaz needs seasoning in the AHL.

It is a subjective I guess, but I fail to see what Engquist (sp?) brings to the game beside interesting positionning. Not physical, no offense, not winning draws, average defensively...

Blunden, on the other hand, was surprising. More speed that I thought, so his forechecking is more efficient.

Trotter showed falshes, but I still need to see him against 6 regular d-men and in a more tight game.

I agree with M. Brunet from Lapresse on Palushaj: lots of wind, very few result. I would have prefer to have a 20 goals scorer in D'Agostini.
Our 13th forward. The new Kostopoulos.

Maybe he will turn into that, but that is not what he showed me from that game. He looked like the Hammer out there.

Let's see after another few games before we pass final judgement. At worst, he is a decent call up to replace the 6th D if there is an injury. Remember, we needed to reach out and pick up Mara last year....

Tonight we'll get to look at..

Peter Budaj - See what kind of quality we have to back-up Price this season.
Beaulieu - Our most recent first round pick, how well does he compare to Jared Tinordi, is he ahead or behind him in development?
Avstin - The offensive wizard, potential steal, finally get to see what he looks like in NHL pre-season after not playing a game with us last year.
Desharnais - Can he have an impressive showing to lead us to believe he's a lock for the top-9 this season?
DeSimone - Is he worth a contract spot?
Dumont - How close is he to being a 4th liner in the NHL?
Gallagher - Earnign rave reviews in scrimmages, how does he fare vs. another team in a pre-season contest?
Pacioretty - First pre-season game, first real game since his stanchion incident. How will he fare with the tempo, physicality and against players who don't care if he gets hurt?

Going to be interesting that's for sure, can't wait to watch Beaulieu and Gallagher. I hope Avstini can also show he will belong in the NHL one day

Pretty much. PG got caught with his pants down and no backup D left last year, and paid through the nose to get replacements. That's why he oversigned defenseman this year, we can't make do with a box of bandaids if we fancy ourselves as contenders.

Yemelin is a keeper, he makes me feel a little less worried about losing hamrlik already. If he can play like that in his first preseason game, he is gonna make our top 4 easily sometime during the year. I was very, very impressed. I'm so excited.
I was seeing Yemeling going behind the Stars net and pinch really deep. I told my buddy, thats not going to last long..lol

Leblanc isn't playing? Is he injured or something?

I'm looking forward to see Beaulieu too, but why would you compare him to Tinordi? I get it, they're two prospect defenseman that were picked in the first round, but similarities end there. In terms of style, they couldn't be any different.

Two different defenseman, that is for certain. I am just looking for qualities and indications of who is closer to the NHL.

I'm kind of looking forward to se how Spacek does I still have the hope that he can do better than in the last two seasons. This would be ideal since we lost Hamrlik and their is a posibility that Markov doesn't start the season. Also, the fact that he is coming in the season in a better shape is nice, the last two seasons he was slow to get is game together.

I agree here... 100%. After watching him play in the WJ's I would be more suprised if Yemelin didn't succeed. He has talent. Of course those looking with flaws will find them but he could be a very good addition to the club.

In fairness, Plekanec is one of the worst when it comes to cheating on the faceoff.

What worries me is the non-chalance with which Gill played and with the lack of concern over his play. Others are trying to make this team and his lack of involvement affects those who are on the ice at the same time as he is.

My fearless prediction is that Gill will be a disappointment this year and that the coaching staff will stick with him much longer than his play merits. I hope I am wrong on both counts.

It's his third season with the habs at the two previous one he was horrible in preseason in perhaps the 10 first games on the seasons don't worry, it's always the same with him.

Faceoffs has indeed to be a huge concern. Agree with Marinaro on this. Can't be a puck possession team without the puck.

The problem is I don't see an outside solution. Lets say we sign a face off specialist, he's going to either be on the 4th line. Are we really going to give the 4th line all of the tough defensive zone starts?

We really need to work on improving it in house. If Eller is going to be a productive top 6 player, he needs to win face offs consistently.

Yemelin, Palushaj just ok

Diaz was awful

Diaz has to concentrate more on his D. That -3 didn't sit well with me. He needs a stint in the AHL, where he'll learn that SOGs aren't as important as +/- when he's the one responsible for the minuses.

Let's be fair, it's his first game on North American soil. He could be +4 in the next game he plays, it still wouldn't mean anything.

Thanks to those who mentioned exactly what concerned me: Faceoffs. This is a huge component, one we've backtracked on since dumping Halpern. Plek improved as the season went on last year, but we need a serious team tutorial! Faceoffs will kill us if we don't improve.

The best thing about last night was Weber, partly because of his play and partly because of his growing experience as an NHLer. He played very well and with confidence, and he's much further along in his development as a steady player than the other young guys. His status gives him a better chance to make an immediate impact.

I'm reserving judgment on the flashes of potential I saw with Yemelin, Diaz and Blunden.

Tonight -- can't wait to see Patch. Wait for the crowd to erupt the second he skates onto the ice.

I was impress by Kostitsyn. He played well but the most important part for me ,he looked like veteran leader out there. Played hard and with determination. The 3rd goal was all about young players following AK lead
