Habs 2011-2012 Best Since 1993

Article From : Bertrand Raymond

Quote:

in '93 we had some stellar defensive vets...I just don't see that kind of defensive depth up front although I do see some comparisons.

I think the point that Demers was trying to make is that the 2011-12 team is better than the Habs from 94-2010. The writer then forced him to compare to the 93 team, which wasn't his original intention.

That's because we've steadily improved each year.

lol

The 100th year team was very good on paper.

8th in the east and sweep agaisnt Boston.

1993 team was a underdog team who win the cup because they were clutch and had lucky bounce.

This year team is a team who is build to be good long term.

The centenial team was awesome. They just dropped the ball due to crazy expectations.

I know the team in the 99th season was probably my favorite Habs team in the last 10 year.

The west coast trip in the 100th season was awful and probably the first step to a dizaster season

And Bretrand Raymond will be the first to criticise this team after two losses!

In '93 we had a lot of guts, a lot of solid players and a goalie named Roy. Nobody since has had that kind of fire.

Every year is 1993 it seems... This is getting beyond silly.

When I saw that article up on RDS.ca, I thought I was on the Sportnographe's website for a moment.

and last night was the coldest night since last winter. its not a stretch. on paper this looks to be the best squad since '93. definately not as good. i'd be thrilled if they finish as good as in 07/08.

The 1992-93 Habs were #6 in the league in the regular season (out of 24 teams) and 7 points behind the #2 team. This despite Roy having a rather mediocre year.
They were a lot better team than what people give them credit for.

The problem was that they were in by far the best division in hockey that year. Both Boston and Quebec had really strong teams. They were an elite defensive team even without Roy at his best.

When they'll win a cup, they'll be the best team since 1993.

What does this have to do with this year's team being better than the 93 team?

Well the 2 best regular seasons we've had since 1993 were 07-08 and last season. In 07-08 the team was good, but also had a lot go it's way especially in regards to injuries. I can buy this team being the best team since the 92-93 Habs.

Once they had traded Desjardins, Leclair, Roy and Keane, there was not much left in the cupboard.

Recchi nor the three guys obtained in the trade with the Avs ever made the difference.

Just to add to that... I remember reading the same articles before the 2008/2009 season.

I'm excited about the upcoming year, but the 93 comparisons are beyond worn out.
