Yea they would still have under contract.. it just slides and he doesnt lose a year in juniors. the contract will only kick in if he plays beyond the 9 game mark. its surprising that soe of the people who write for the flyers or consider themselves beat writters or bloggers dont no simple rules of the CBA?

Thats false. He cannot play in the AHL, so if they flyers don't want him on the active roster anymore he goes straight to juniors.

The Flyers went through this with Luca Sbisa. He played 39 games then the Flyers sent him back to the WHL. Then I think once their season was over he went to the AHL.

He can be sent back to Juniors at any point in the Season. If he plays 10 games or more, it counts as a year on his Entry level contract. If he is on the team's roster for 40 games or more (that's on the roster, not games actually played) then it counts as a Accrued Season towards his reaching UFA status, which is 7 Accrued Seasons, or 27 years of age.
Wrong. Read on the first page what RD and MSE posted regarding this. It does NOT affect his RFA status at all. From what I understand the ONLY thing that it affects is when he is no longer waiver exempt (ie - when he can be sent back down to the minors without having to pass through waivers).

And it does make a difference if he doesn't play for the Flyers this year. For one, his ELC will slide, delaying him reaching RFA status, and will also delay his reaching UFA status.

I do know how it works and what you quoted initially, claiming it was wrong, it very much incorrect. Let me explain. SIGNING him NOW, what was in question, has absolutely no bearing on his entry level contract length nor when he reaches UFA status. Signing him now, sending him back to juniors for the year, and then having him on the team NEXT year counts EXACTLY the same as just signing him NEXT year and having him on the team next year. His entry level contract is still in effect until after the 2014/15 season and he's STILL an RGA until age 26. Thus, signing him now has absolutely no effect on when his entry level contract expires nor when he can become an UFA. The same holds true for if he is sent back to juniors for 2 more years and doesn't join the team until he's 20 compared to just signing him when he's 20.
The ONLY thing in the CBA that is tied to WHEN you sign your entry level contract is the amount of time you are waiver exempt (IIRC). EVERYTHING else is dependant upon how many games you play.
Now, if the Flyers keep him on the team THEN it can affect when his entry level contract expires and when he is UFA eligable but that is not what the original poster was saying, he was saying that SIGNING HIM, not signing him and KEEPING him on the team, has no effect upon his entry level contract and RFA years.
While Chris was not correct in saying that siging him now enables the Flyers to get the most years out of his RFA time, you saying that it's the opposite is wrong too. SIGNING him has absolutely no bearing upon what year he becomes an UFA.
The benefit of signing him now is that we probably get him cheaper than if he went back to juniors, played well and then we tried to sign him after dominating juniors for another year or 2 (compare Jeff Skinners contract to that of B Schenns for an example of this).

He signed as an 18-year old and that DOES matter for waiver exempt status. His age at the time he signs his first SPC determines the number of games he has to play before he is no longer waiver exempt.
