Jody Shelley: is it time to finally say goodbye?

So a number of us thought there was a chance that Shelley might be sent packing after camp. If anything were to save him, it would simply be that he's a good guy, and good in the locker room.

After his horrific game (if we can even call it that) last night, are we getting closer to seeing this become a reality?

In his 6 minutes, he had an absolutely terrible turnover right at our own blue line, took a minor penalty early, got a major boarding penalty (and subsequently a game misconduct), lost his fight (which is what he's SUPPOSED to be here for), and it is quite possible he will see a suspension.

Is it time to replace him with a young guy at half his cap hit in Sestito, or even Rinaldo? Rinaldo is clearly not a "heavy" and he's got a whole lot crazy in him, but at least he can skate, and may genuinely instill fear in the other team, because he could potentially Happy Gilmore them at anytime.

I shouldn't even be saying "is it time to replace him" but rather "is it time that they actually WILL replace him", because most of us didn't get the signing from the start.

Yea, I would love to see Sestito take his place, the dude is a beast.

If this game doesn't get rid of him... I think we will just have to look at his name in our lineup until his contract expires.

Depends on the upcoming suspension

If he gets suspended for 3+ games now, there is a growing chance of him being waved before the season starts.

The Flyers propect pool has become deeper lately and there are cheaper options that can fill his spot.

If he stays than because of some sort of close relationship to Holmgren or because of a promise given to him before he was signed - Homer is a man of his words and won't drop one of his guys easily...

Doesn't matter. It won't happen. This is the Philadelphia Flyers, they will not go into battle without making sure they have the biggest, baddest mother they can find.

And I like this attitude, it would just be a lot cooler if the guy could actually play, atleast a little.
Sestito can but he won't fight the big guys, he's not an enforcer.

Shelley is big, but he is waaaaaaaaaaaay over rated as a fighter in my opinion.....Throws the slowest punches i have ever seen wearing the orange and black....Sestito is a pretty good fighter, and a helluva lot faster skater with a skill set much higher than Shelley. The broad street Bully mystique is a thing of the past any way....Philly has not been a tough team in years as compared to the REAL bully years.

Listen to any interview of Laviolette in which he speaks of Shelley. Lavi seems to love the guy, so it doesn't look like he'll be gone any time soon. I am just pulling for a guy like Matt Read to make the squad in order to push Talbot down to the fourth line and Shelley into the 13th forward role. As long as Shelley isn't playing a regular shift on this team, I am okay with him being on the roster. By all accounts, he's good in the locker room.

Can they waive him if he is suspended? Or are we stuck with him on the roster for those games?

Anyway, I don't expect to see him waived. I wouldn't mind it, but I'm not expecting it.

Yup..he's going to be a hemorrhoid on the collective Flyers fans butt for the duration of his contract unless he kills somebody on the ice or himself....

Count me in with this.

I'm tired of this "good guy in the locker room" crap. We have plenty of veterans and even young guys who are good for team morale. Jody Shelley, apart from 2 pretty nice goals last year, does nothing for this team. I want to see Rinaldo get a chance to be our energy guy. He's young, has a ton of fire and some good hands. Also, maybe he can learn from the example of Shelley getting ****canned that stupid hits and suspensions are not going to fly anymore.

Oh not Rinaldo, he's Downie 2.0 just without the hockey ability. Can we have a team without a useless idiot on it for once.

He's far less useless than Shelley, and I would say "but far more the idiot", but Shelley had a rough year as far as bad penalties and suspensions are concerned.

Add me to the list. A waste of money and roster space and now any suspension will force the team to replace him on the roster while paying Shelley to be suspended. Add into it the Pronger situation, if he's not ready for opening night and won't be out long enough to go on LTIR, we're really in cap hell.
