Lindros for Comrie?

LINDROS FOR COMRIE?

TORONTO STAR/SPORTS FORECASTER: in it's "weekend mag" edition reported
the Edmonton Oilers tried to obtain Eric Lindros from the Philadelphia Flyers
two years ago to address their problems at centre. Today the Oilers still need
depth at centre and it's believed the NY Rangers, whom Lindros now plays for,
may be interested in holdout centre Mike Comrie. Thus the suggestion was
made as to the possibility of a swap of Comrie for Lindros, with the Rangers
picking up part of "the Big E's" contract in order for the Oilers to afford him.

Spector's Note: While the writer of this suggests it's a longshot, he also writes
"stranger things have happened". Granted, but Lindros's stock was much higher
two years ago than it is now. He's not the dominant player he once was, and I
can't see Kevin Lowe having any interest in Lindros now.

Obsessed's Note:

We already have one Brad Isbister why would we want another. The idea of Lindros as a big dominating centre is better than the actuall Lindros who doesn't dominate much other than the minus column on the score sheet. He is a true Glen Sather "project" that hasn't panned out. While he would probably thrive on the best ice in the league his ego wouldn't fit through the front door. Wont happen! This gets filed under pipe dream.

Just imagine, if you will...

"The starting lineups for tonight are brought to you by Telus...for the Oilers, Ryan Smyth will play with Eric Lindros and Brad Isbister"

Imagine if Eric and Brad played the way they can...wow...that line would be sick. Even just toss Georges on the RW, put Izzy on LW, and have the biggest grind line ever. It IS nice to dream...

I certainly wouldn't make that trade if I was Lowe...

In his career, Lindros has proven 3 things...

1. He is injury prone
2. He likes to pick and choose his teams
3. He cries if he doesn't get #2.

This just goes to show that nobody knows whats going on with Comrie. Even the media are making up proposals...

Lindros still has some good hockey years ahead of him but he is nothing compared to the player he once was destined to be.

even if the salary could somehow be worked out, Lindros is a UFA at year's end, why would EDM deal a 23 year old 1/2 C for a guy who's gonna be gone at year end?

Yeah. no kidding.

I'm not opposed to the idea of the Oilers picking up a rental player to fill in for Comrie's absense, but I'm very opposed to trading Comrie (or any other major asset) to acquire a rental guy.

I agree. I would rather see him sit the year than see him playing and scoring for another team. Comrie is an asset to any team at his age. Lindros or any other "rental guy" is wasy too risky.
