Great news.

He looks to be the one of the most NHL ready guys in his first year then a lot of the other players we've drafted in the past.

Sweet, Jensen wasn't on my list during the draft but he's looked good in the few times I've seen him.

They wasted no time with this one.

For a draftee, he looked great. I certainly have no expectations of him playing for the big club this year but I look forward to how he develops.

I think he'll be one of the quicker developing rookies/prospect we ever had in awhile, barring injuries of course.

If he wants to play on the Canucks in year hope he was smart enough to stay away from to many bonuses that he will probably not earn anyways.

He has the size and speed that will make it easier for him to break in as a bottom 6 forward. Hodgson and Schroeder don't have the size.

He'll have bonuses probably in the $100,000 to $200,000 range like Schroeder. Guessing a cap hit of around $1.1 million with bonuses. And he won't make the team so it's not a worry. At best he may get nine games because of the injuries but I still can't see it happening.

Wasn't expecting too much from the kid considering he got drafted late in the 1st round, but he has looked better than Hodgson IMHO. Like his hockey sense a lot, another year in juniors will definitely benefit him, and then I could see him really making a strong push for a job next year.

Nice. He's looked very good in the YoungStars tourney and the pre-season thus far. Lots of potential, and definitely loving the size and willingness to use it that he brings.

At the very least, he looks to be cut from the right cloth to break in as a bottom-6er, more so than many of our other prospects in recent years. With the size and skill he has, he certainly could be on a faster track to the bigs.

What would have happened if they hadn't of signed him? When is the deadline he had to be signed for before he went into the draft?

Nope the contract slides this year if he returns to the OHL (which in all likelihood will occur).

Quote:
If a player aged 18 or 19 signs an entry-level contract with a club (with his age calculated on Sept. 15 of the year he signed the contract) but does not play in at least 10 NHL games, the contract will "slide" or be extended one year. The extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between Sept. 16 and Dec. 31 in the year he signed the contract.
Depending on the contract's structure, the player's cap hit can be affected either by an increase or a decrease. Players who sign at age 18 can have their contract extended (or "slide") two seasons.
As i said on the weekend, he is more ready and made a bigger impression than both Hodgson and Schroeder did in their first camp. If everything progresses as it should (who knows with our curse), i'd say timetable is at 2 years.

And an odd cap amount. He didn't even get ELC Max which is $925K.

He's looked good but I don't think he looks better than Hodgson NOW. He looks better than Hodgson at 18 though, and remember how close CoHo was to making the team? (granted that wasn't quite a CUP contending team yet)

Good signing. He's shown he has the talent and potential so really no sense in waiting to sign him. It's been a while since the Canucks had a powerforward prospect with top 6potential.

Can anyone run down why it's beneficial to sign him now as opposed to later? One aspect of the CBA I'm fairly unfamiliar with..

It just makes Jensen feel more warm and fuzzy.
