Looks like JD Watt got himself an AHL contract with the Monarchs.

Wonder if LA is interested in signing any of Durepos, Morrison, Carnevale or Kantor?

Wouldn't be surprised to see Paddock get an AHL deal as well.

No, that's why they were cut... I think Roach, Miller, Heska, Cajkovsky and Hunter are the only tryout players left in camp so if the Kings sign anyone it would be any of those. Rumor is that Roach may end up on Monarchs deal if he doesn't sign a NHL one, the others I'm not sure, they all seem like they'd be solid depth signings for Manch and Ontario. On AHL deals if possible... This first round of cuts is basically all the guys the Kings either: a.have no interest in pursuing any longer, or b. players that are better served playing in Juniors (Gibson, Schumacher)

Weal = trade bait

2011 = no room on the Kings for Weal

2012 = no room on the Kings for Weal

2013 = no room on the Kings for Weal

2014 = no room on the Kings for Weal

2015 = no room on the Kings for Weal

...etc.

Given Kopitar, Richards, Loktionov, & Lewis, Weal will never be a King. I suppose he can always convert to wing, but I think it's more likely he'll go the Jeff Tambellini route. I.e., Weal is trade bait.

I'd agree, if he had any trade value. He's not even a top 10 prospect in our organization. Best we'd get is a late round pick or a depth/minor league player for him at this stage. He'll be a King for a few more seasons likely, see if he develops.

Is 18 year-old Roach allowed to sign a deal with the Monarchs? Wouldn't he only have the option of returning to junior hockey?

Was he drafted ? I think that's what matters.

There's a small window during training camp (I'm not sure of the exact dates) when teams can sign currently undrafted but still draft eligible players to NHL contracts. This was the case with Martin Jones when he signed with the Kings. He was passed over in the draft, invited to Kings camp and impressed enough to get a contract offer. I think the window is 5-7 days near the end of training camp but don't qoute me on that. You are also correct that he would be unable to play in the AHL and would have to be returned to Juniors, but again see the Jones example as Roach would be signed but his contract wouldn't count towards the 50 contract limit until his junior career ended or he played 10 games with the Kings.

Sorry I mispoke about Roach and an AHL deal... I think I somehow confused him and Andreoff...

Does anyone remember how long after the first round of cuts it was last year before some more players were cut as well? I assume there will be at least two more pre-season games before any more cuts are done?

Looking at the training camp schedule the Kings will be down to one practice group by the 29th of Sept.. So around that date should be the next cut, I'd imagine it'll probably be on or after the 26th as it appears there is only one group scheduled to travel to K.C. and no icetime scheduled for players left behind... Next group to go should be most of the Manch bound players and the last of the Juniors players that won't stick on the Kings. Should probably trim the roster down to about 30 players.

On further inspection, it should be the 26th or 27th. Most AHL camps appear to be starting up one of those two days.

I would expect some this weekend and more on Monday after the Anaheim game. The Kings leave for Europe right after the Frozen Fury game on 10/1, does anyone know if the Kings can bring more than 23 players with them for the games in Europe? I would expect that they could at least bring 3 goalies and maybe a couple of extra skaters.

Toffoli might get one more game and then sent back to juniors.

Since they are regular season games and the 23-man roster limit goes into effect before those games I'd say no it will be 23. I imagine if an injury happened the team would have to sign a player from a European league to a PTO and then cut them if they couldn't dress the number of required players. That or do like Nashville had to do a couple years ago when Andy Sutton dressed as the backup goalie for a game because their AHL callup couldn't make it to the arena in time...

I thought Teigan Zahn looked pretty good in the Phoenix rookie game. Did anyone have any comments about him?

they have two preseason games over there so they could have more players than the 23 and just keep them around incase of injuries.

According to Hammond, the Kings were using this lineup in practice:

Penner-Kopitar-Williams
Gagne-Richards-Brown
Clifford-Stoll-Parse
Richardson-Lewis-Westgarth
Moreau-Loktionov-Hunter

Mitchell-Voynov
Scuderi-Johnson
Martinez-Greene
Drewiske-Hickey

Quick
Bernier

That's 25 players, which I believe is the number of players that teams traveling to Europe are permitted to carry. Two skaters from that group will be sent to Manchester or released, three when Doughty returns.

Parse and 44DD are probably the two that will be moved. The third will probably be Lokti or Hickey.

Interesting to see Voynov with Mitchell. I like that pairing quite a bit, actually. With or without Doughty, the Kings have a solid defense. That is pretty scary.

True, if Johnson can continue to log heavy minutes like he did the other night (30 mins) and Martinez sees his ice time bumped up, it would cut down on the minutes Voinov would have to play to a more reasonable (14-16) a game and the Kings are actually looking pretty decent until Doughty signs.

And it still leaves the Kings with Scuderi, Mitchell, Greene and Johnson to kill penalties. Richards, Stoll, Voynov, Johnson and Martinez can all play the point on the PP.

Voynov doesn't have to "replace" Doughty for the Kings to be successful. Mitchell and Voynov's speed can make up for a lot of rookie mistakes.

To date, the part in bold has been an unmitigated disaster.

True but there really isn't any other option... The only thing that I could think of would be putting out three forwards on the PK since the Kings have a glut of guys that can play the PK in Kopi, Richards, Brown, Stoll, Lewis, Richardson, and even Moreau... But that also could be a recipe for disaster.
