Good for Boston.

This gives them the chance to negotiate a longer deal in the future. The important thing is that he's signed and focused on this season now.

Immediate improvement on the B's blueline. Good move to finally get him in.

According to TSN, $1.75M. Nice deal for Boston.

Couldn't the Bruins just have picked up his option and paid him less than that for a 1 year deal?

What's Boynton's status at the end of the year? He can't be a UFA yet can he?

Good move by BOS holding firm...

However, I predict Boynton gets injured within 25 games because he missed camp like many holdouts before him. The skating with a college team type holdout routine is never equivalent to the intensity of an NHL training camp.

Why not predicting he'll get injured in the next 78 games while you're at it...

Leetch, Boynton, Slegr, Gill...

Well it still looks weak, but it's a LOT better.

well, after Brad Stuart's 15 game holdout he was placed on injured reserve after 23 games with an inflammed ankle...

Nabokov suffered a back injury, among other things, after his holdout...

Wasn't Boynton's option before the lockout? So if they picked it up at $1.9m and then got the 24% rollback they'd be paying him $1.44m?

No it was for 2.5 rolled back to 1.9.

Boynton must be pissed that he not get the amount he wanted. He may be tough for the Bruins to re-sign in the next off-season.

Thanks!

Seems like an pretty tough way to save $150,000M. I guess they were hoping to sign a longer term deal, which is why they didn't pick up the option? If I'm a Bruins fan, I'm nervous that he files for arbitration at year end, and then will be a UFA after next year. He certainly doens't seem all that interested to get locked up long term at this point.

I disagree. He wants to be a Bruin and they tried to get him a long term deal. I think what it came down to was MOC straight up said that in order to get a long term deal done they would have to trade his buddy Hal Gill. So Boynton to a little paycut for this year.

Boynton will probably get a long term offer in January and they'll keep negotiating until something is worked out. He declined arbitration last season, and unless he absolutely destroys shiet this year, he won't get much more that the 1.9m option the Bruins had.

Boynton's signing couldn't come fast enough. The Bruins are 3-2, but there are defensive issues. While Brian Leetch is beginning to look like Brian Leetch, his ice time load is too high, and any time Hal Gill successfully clears the puck out of his own zone, it's cause for celebration. It's the Bruins' forward depth, with contributions from newcomers like Pat Leahy and Brad Isbister, that's keeping them afloat. Andrew Raycroft was a big help last night, saving a clean breakaway with 6 seconds left in the first period.

While its great to have Raycroft and Boynton signed, both are 1-year deals, and, as the Boston Globe column below attests, saving a few bucks now(Boynton signed for the original $1.75 million offer) could cost them in the future.

Sherlock, all those players that missed more than a year attended training camp, not 'skated at the local rink' like Boynton did by holding out and MISSING training camp. You missed the difference.
