Interesting in the sense that outdoor games are becoming so come and frequent that they're soon going to be losing their appeal for being 'unique'...

...if it hasn't happened already...

I kinda thought this was in the works. Soon after the AHL schedule was released, I logged onto the Hershey Bears Booster Club site to see what road trips they were going to this season. The road trip section of the site had a notation that this game against Adirondack may end up turning into an outdoor game at Citizens Bank Park.

I don't see how the outdoor game concept is overplayed at all. It's not like fans of the AHL in general or these franchises specifically have had an opportunity to see an outdoor game, especially since the games are not televised.

Ahl fans have had the last 2 years to see an outdoor game. If you chose not to go to Syracuse or hartford that was your choice.

Personally I agree that outdoor games are overplayed.

No, interesting in the sense both teams have a tie to that city as either being an affiliate or playing in that city(the Phantoms)I'm sure theres still a few Hershey fans in Philly. I'm sure people in Philly attend Bears game because it's a cheaper ticket. Thats what they do in Reading(which is also close to Philly)

The game in Syracuse was an absoloute train wreck from what I understand as far as things like service went. Don't know about the Hartford game.

I agree these outdoor games are WAY overplayed. i'd like to see the concept ditched completly.

The game in Syracuse was a debacle starting with getting into the Fairgrounds.

I don't know that the Bears arer really much of a draw or have any kind of a fanbase in Philly. Most fans in Philly hated the Bears during the Phantoms' time in Philadelphia. It's an AHL team two hours away that is affiliated with a Flyers rival. The Phantoms worked wonderfully for a while because it was a Flyers affiliate playing in the same city as the big club. After a while, even that novelty began to wear off. The last couple Phantoms games I attended at the Spectrum, I remember being shocked at the size of the crowd and thinking, "What the hell happened here in just six or seven years?"

I can't remember what i ended up doing the day of the Syracuse outdoor game, but I know I had other plans that day. I had thought about going just because I am very familiar with the NYSFG. I have been going to the Syracuse Fairgrounds every year since the mid 1980s for the annual DIRT Week Modified race there there each October.

Not sure if this is against the rules on here, but my Ice Team will be playing at CBP after this game and we need to sell tickets for the game in order to play. $15 a piece, no clue where they are but we need to unload 500 tickets before game day. Let me know if anyone needs any.

If you buy enough group tickets you can make it happen. Same thing goes for skating at the wells Fargo center.

The fact that in order to get tix for the NHL game you had to buy both the ahl and alumni game as part of a package certainly helped.

Let's see how the game in hamilton draws.

That's strange. I watched the game this afternoon on the NHL channel @ 3 PM CT.

Every situation is different. To me if the place is set up for it, take advantage. The butts still made it to the seats.

Went to the game and had a great time. I'd go every year, I'd just get tix earlier so I don't have to pay the secondary market price. 60 on 13 dollar tickets.... cheapest I could find, they ended up being decent seats.

Saw the replay on NHLNetwork, didn't really do justice to the whole atmosphere there, but fun to watch for sure.

I was sitting at home flipping through the guide and saw Sportsnet was showing this. Thought, "ok, lets see how empty the stadium is". Was surprised to see it packed. On top of that, Im glad I didn't change the channel, turned out to be a great game.

My only complaint about it would be having the rink on top of a green field. Looked awful. Then again, I'm of the opinion that if you're doing an outdoor/stadium game, you find a way to put seats on the field, like in Germany.
