Last night was a reversal of tonight... Leafs fielded basically a full NHL team against half n half for Sabres.
Missing Phaneuf, MacArthur, Bozak, Gunnarsson, Kessel, Connolly, Liles and Reimer. They're the one's who really contribute and we missed that. We're giving young guys their opportunities to make an impression.
Is anyone else concerned with how scrambley Gustavsson looks? Especially side to side. As soon as the puck goes across, he looks like he's totally over-shooting going post to post.

It's nothing new.
He reminds me of a puppy german shepherd. They have long legs and are generally lanky and have no clue how to use their body, so they always look awkward.
Gustavsson always looks like that. He's clunky, and it doesn't help that he overplays often. He would benefit from moving more fluidly.

I know he's always played like that, but isn't it about time he should have corrected it? Tonight I really got the impression that the only thing you have to do to score on him is pass it from one side to the next and back again, and you'd be staring at an open net.

That's my problem with him from the beginning. When he does that he's slow to react as well. Reimer is much more calm than he is, same with Scrivens.
Wait wait wait, people are being hard on Gustavsson after a game like this?! He almost single handily stole that game for us...
If anything he solidified my trust in him for the upcoming season!
Jonas!
I agree, the only thing I would want to know is if those new pads make him slide to the extreme lol. He looked at some times like he could push off once and end up in the boards
seen this before..its like anyone that plays for th leafs
-D cant get puck out of their zone to forwards (we will excuse gardiner but he doesnt even count because he starting in the A)
-f***ing pkers cant take away passing lame
- powerplay makes me wanna break my tv -gus reminds me of the cirque du soleil commerical

I personally think it's his tendency of over-committing side to side. This happens all the time. As much as he played well tonight, he still hasn't improved on being patient and not over-committing to the play. That's my only problem with him. If he has the same calmness as Reimer or Scrivens, i think Gustavsson could be better than them.
Ennis out muscled Komisarek out of the corner! Komisarek is brutal but we all know that. I just wanted to mention that Komisarek was atrocious tonight instead of just bad. I just really started to notice he's on the ice just about every time there's a scoring chance for the other team.
Kadri is disappointing me. He is weak and causes many turnovers especially at the opposing teams blue line. I was not a fan of the pick yet I'm still waiting for the kid to impress me. What happened to that nastiness he had a rep for? - I think he is still physically weak and has shied away from that part of his game. I don't think he's physically ready yet, which is disappointing because he does have potential and we need scoring.
Frattin and Gardiner have earned themselves a couple games in the regular season. Watching Gardiner skate and carry the puck is a treat, and Frattin has the knack to find the net and creates scoring chances by just shooting.

The answer is yes they do for the first little while actually. I've worn them and switched back after a couple of games because it's hard to bend your leg back for traction after a butterfly slide. I'm sure you get used to it though.
Kuli Grabo Mac
Kessel Connolly Lupul
Lombardi Bozak Frattin/Kadri
Army Boyce/Dupuis Brown
I have no idea. What else could work?
I think we would be greatly diminishing Armstrong's effects if we put him on the 4th line. It's hard to say where either of Kadri/Frattin would play aside from the 4th line.
I agree with what you're saying, but it's really difficult to make this assessment now because it's only pre-season and we haven't seen the full lineup for even one game. This type of thing would be a big concern (and was last year at times), if it continued into the regular season, but as of now we don't know that it will be a problem.

Yeah I fully agree with that. If Lombardi is back, it's definitely throwing a corkscrew for the young guys.

Yeah really, there isn't much room at all, and while I think that at least one, if not both of these two young guys should be on the team, I don't want them getting 5 minutes a game on the 4th line.
