Opinions on the Flyer's 'problem'?

The problem with us this year is a good problem to have. We simply have too many prospects competing for job's with very few spaces availible.

Now certain players are, or have a pretty good chance to be on the roster.

JVR-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Briere-Jagr
Nodl-?-Simmonds
Talbot-Betts-?

Pronger-Carle
Timonen-Coburn
Meszaros-?
?

Bryzgalov
Bobrovsky
Now the question marks are the possible open spaces. Here is a list of prospects fighting to make it:

Schenn, Couturier, Wellwood, Read, Testuwide, Holmstrom, Sestito, Rinaldo, Brown, Zolnierczyk, Gustaffson.

Also vetrans like Lilja will be fighting for positions.

Now my question is from what you have seen of these players, who do you want to make the roster? Keep in mind that Shelley is suspended () So there's that to consider as well.

100% agree with the other posters. Infact, I wouldnt mind seeing Holmstrom or Wellwood see some time over Nodl, but as we know Nodl can't be sent down to the Minors without first clearing waivers so that is an unlikely scenario I would think. Homer however might think otherwise.

First 9 games:

Hartnell-Briere-Voracek
JvR-Giroux-Jagr
Couturier-Schenn-Simmonds
Read-Talbot-Nodl
Betts

Timonen-Coburn
Pronger-Carle
Meszaros-Gustafsson
Lilja

Rest of the season (assuming they decided Couturier isn't quite ready yet):

(top 2 remain the same)
Read-Schenn-Simmonds
Talbot-Betts-Nodl
Sestito

(defense remains the same)

Anybody writing off Nodl isn't considering they'll need him on the PK with so many guys who did that last year gone and no one really in to replace those minutes. Plus he looked better scoring wise, .33 ppg, this year a .5 ppg and good work on the PK and he earns his spot every night.

Schenn is a lock, after that Read has looked good, maybe Rinaldo if you want the sandpaper.

If I have to waive a player to make cap room and the choice is Shelley or Walker, I'll keep Walker thanks. If I need an enforcer that badly, I pick up Eric Godard.

Thanks, and ya this easily competes as best lineup on paper top to bottom no question, good mix of speed, size, skill, grit, and defensive responsibility.

Walker has played very well and if not for the 1.7 he would be a lock to make the team. That being said here is who I think have made the team right now.

LW Center RW

1. JVR Giroux Jagr
2. Harts Briere Voracek
3. Read Schenn Simmonds
4. Talbot

Betts, Shelley and Nodl are on the hot seat.
Zac,HarryZ,Sestito, Rowe and Sean C still have a shot

Def
Pronger - Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Meszaros -

Walker should be #6 but to much $
Lilja should be #7
Gus may make it. Low cap it. Having two 5'10" d men is scary on one team.

Bartulis on the hot seat
Manning ?

Goal
Bryzgalov
Bobrovsky
Leighton to the farm

It is good to see the vets getting pushed by the young guys. These next preseason game should be very interesting to say the least.

LETS GO FLYERS!!

Here is what I want - not necessarily what I think will happen though...

FORWARDS
Voracek Giroux JVR
Jagr Briere Hartnell
Read Schenn Simmonds
Rinaldo Talbot Sestito

Testwuide/Nodl extras

DEFENSEMEN
Pronger Carle
Timonen Coburn
Meszaros Walker

Gustaffson/Bartulis extras

Goalies - duh...

I really think that Rinaldo makes the team - Laviolette and Holmgren seem to love him and he hasn't gotten suspended yet.

With the team losing some key 2-way forwards, the bottom two lines are both going to have to be solid shut down lines. That 4th line doesn't offer that ability. Part of the reason Nodl is so valuable right now is his defensive play.

Yep.

Lilja is going to be on this team, as at least the 7th D-man.

Thats what i have been thinking except for,

Nodl-Talbot-Read

for the 4th line, why not ice the team with the most talent. There is defiantly enough defensive prowess in that lineup and an all around fast, tough group. We lack the tough enforcer presence but why not just win?

Betts is finished. What does he offer at this point? His shoulder is weak, and cannot win faceoffs at the pace he used to. He is very very slow, which in turn affects his effectiveness on the pk, and when he is on the ice there is 0.1% chance that we are going to score.

I think rinaldo has a lot to offer as a 4th line player...put talbot at center.

Well that's where I disagree because I think Rinaldo has nothing to offer.

I'm not a Betts fan or anything, but I have him in the lineup because he is cheaper than Read and because I'd rather keep him for an insurance policy.
