I don't get the appeal of Luca Caputi. Burke said he had a 2nd and 4th(?) on the table, and took an NHL player for Ponikarovsky. 18 months later he is on waivers.
Same could happen to whatever the 2nd round pick was going to be. I don't fault Burke for taking a chance on a kid from Toronto, who produced almost a PPG clip in the AHL at 20-21(?).
Caputi had a serious injury that kept him out the bulk of the year last season. So I want to see how he does this season. He's a bigger kid, and may take a bit longer to put it together.
He's turning 23 in August, so it's not like his window is totally shut.
EDIT: And I don't think Burke said he was an 'NHL player'. He felt that Caputi would contribute to the Leafs quicker then a 2nd round pick. Which made sense given what he had accomplished after two seasons in the AHL.
If they are eligible to be claimed. The Penguins should try to claim Zigomanis or Caputi or both.
Uh, why? If the Pens claimed them, they'd have to stay up with the NHL club, or risk Toronto simply reclaiming them on waivers if the Pens attempt to send them down to the AHL. And at this point, there is absolutely no room for Ziggy or Caputi on the Pens' NHL squad.
No you don't. If he is anything like when he left Pittsburgh he was having trouble staying in shape. I mean he is loved in Pittsburgh for getting Johnsons back in the Isles game but he can't even handle 4 minutes a game anymore.
exactly this. Frankly I'm curious at whoever wrote that "[Godard is] not as bad at hockey as some enforcers" -- who the hell did you have in mind? He's a pretty good fighter but that's it. You won't find a worse hockey player.
I can see a team taking a chance on Kotalik and Zigomanis especially if they want a depth forward.
People got to learn how to use punctuation. On our radio ads the other day a black man's wallet was reported as missing. Instead of a man's wallet black in colour missing a black man's wallet is missing.
The only players I've heard anything about are Brandon Segal (assigned to AHL) and Cristobal Huet (assigned to Switzerland) which seems to indicate the waiver period is over, but anyone privy to that information is too busy talking about suspensions (the TSN crew) or the NYR-PHI outdoor classic press conference.
