Players have to have more respect for each other. I remember a season or two against Detroit? when Grier could have slammed the Detroit player into the boards but instead slowed up up on his hit.

It's possible for a player to accidentally do one of these, but a lot of these hits are not accidental.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with Phanuefs hit ........... Nothing wrong with Boyes hit .........

Armstrong should of got a penalty and his azz beat ... 1 of 2 happened... But he doesn't deserve to be suspended.

Yes, he does. Hits like that on a guy against the boards can end a guys career, and the only way to cut them out is to make a guy sit for a few games if he's responsible for one.

Completely agree. Fans ***** when it's their player getting disciplined, and then ***** when one of their players is injured by one of these hits. If this is the way to stop head hits, then so be it. I love the physicality of the game, but not enough to continue to watch players receive serious head injuries.

I don't really have an issue with looking at that. If the league is serious about ridding itself of headshots, it has to.

Boyes made contact with the head, it deserves a look.

They can have a look without making a PR circus out of it all .... No need to call players in and blow it up...

Someone else mentioned it earlier, but I see it calming down once the regular season starts. Simply put, you can't make that drastic a change in the blink of an eye. It'd change the way guys play the game way too much.

You could see it evolve over time, but for now, I fully expect it to calm down.

I disagree ... alot of plays have the potential to end someones career .. He didn't drive him into the boards ... it was a cheap play..yes... rough play...yes... dirty..yes.... But not a suspension worthy play.. IMO.

I hate the new kickoff line. The league says it's trying to protect players. I think the NFL is protecting itself from liability lawsuits

Same thing can be said for NFL....

All of this is media/twitter driven .... Thus it being a witch hunt.

Who's making a PR circus about it? One person put it up as a Twitter update. There's no major news about it on the NHL site or the Sabres site. The only people making a big deal out of it is the fans.

I agree. Hits to the head and the injuries that result from them aren't some made up problem. It's not OK to have so many players with serious concussions. It's a real issue and as far as I'm concerned it does a lot more damage to the game than getting serious about disciplining illegal hits. Frankly, being a fan of a game/league that has so frequently been cavalier with regard to the health and safety of its players is something that is troubling to me so I'm a fan of any attempt to address this.

Shanahan is expected to bring more transparency and consistency to NHL discipline. He's been providing explanations for his decisions and seems to be trying to make the standards he's applying quite clear. I think it's an immediate improvement on Campbell.

The only way Boyes could have avoided any contact with his head would be to not hit him.

His elbow was at his side and the Leaf was a little low at the moment of contact.

Welcome to the new world of media coverage. Internet/twitter is a Circus in itself. its only gonna get worse as EVERYTHING is magnifide x infinity. I was at the game and did not even recall the Boyes hit, BUT, after seeing it on the replay, yes it was a head shot. Armstrongs hit was dirty i admit, but the league is going after headshots per Sheriff Shanahan. Phaneufs hit fri was not worth of a trip to SS's office.

To me it looks like Boyes' elbow hit Colborne's chest and Boyes' shoulder/upper arm did hit Colborne's head.

Is it worth a look? Sure. Is it worth any more of a fuss? I wouldn't think so but, I guess we'll see how it's handled in the end. I'm guessing we may not even hear any update on it.

That's why the NHL is using terms like TARGETED and PRINCIPAL point of contact.

I'm glad it's only for the preseason, but if that warrants a suspension for a pansy like Brad Boyes, I have a feeling Kaleta might be sitting half the season due to his reputation (despite being one of the cleaner hitting pests in the league).

That's what I've been wondering -- from the other side, I thought he got Colborne in the chest, thus my reaction in the GDT. *shrug* We haven't seen another view.
