This should rile up Jags6868 who I believe is actually Jaromir's mother incognito

Anyway, everybody is haggling about how many points he'll get and whether he will be burned out by game 41 or sooner. I still think he will provide added value in the form of at least 60 points as well as other intangibles in the locker room. Everything else will be gravy.

I am trying to find the origins of jagoff. It seems to be a pittsburgh word, did it start because of Jagr or was it going on a long time ago?

Seems to have stemmed from when he left Pitt...some of it mentioned in this article

wow that article was brutally emo.. anyways i don't think it started with Jagr or it would have been mentioned somewhere, it has probably been around since before the 90's. I could be wrong. It would be awesome if it was named after him but i doubt it was

Instead of Jagr, the back of the jersey read “Jag Off,” a traditional insult used in Pittsburgh to describe someone that you don’t really like all that much.

This site dedicated to Pittsburgh speech says that the word origin of "jag" is unknown, but probably stems from Scots-Irish English.

What things you can learn when you're too bored to work...

I always thought jag off was basically a slang form of jack off, which is of course the same thing as calling someone a jerk off.

Well....this thread is set to hit 1000 posts. Any clever title requests for the next one?

^---This, when you are retarded and from pittsburgh ck sounds like a g. And instead of seperating the words think of it as one word said quickly. Jackoff, Jagoff.

Can we just cap this thread with a song parody of the Maroon 5 song...Got the moves like Jagr? A montage of Jagr's slick moves. That might appease Jags6868...

Nothing will appease him. Maybe if we rewrote the chorus and recorded the entire board singing Jagr's praises as the best ever coming back to kick on more generation of NHLer's ***** before he rides off into the sunset....

Nah, probably not that even.

I would like somebody who is good with dubbing stuff make a you tube montage with that parody..it would be hilarious. All you "heff" to do is just interject Jagr for Jagger..

I also like to discuss the whole Jagoff origins..anything but the long winded debate about Jagr's pending production..
