Problem is, that he isn't a great fighter. He's not Riley Cote, but he certainly isn't a top 5-10 fighter. At best he was 50/50 last year and that's being generous.

Keep in mind, Shelley is at the age where many pro atheletes skills start to decline due to age and wear and tear. Add in he never was any good to start with, and you have a player who will strugle to keep up with the game

I don't see him offering any kind of service that someone younger can do just as effectively but for half the price.

I would honestly love to see Tom Sestito play in Shelley's place. Sestito is a freak size wise, and can play better offense than Shelley. Plus the little extra cap room would be nice.

Agree 100%. I have been psyched on Sestito since we traded for him. Hopefully this is how it goes down.

... or a cardboard cutout of a decent NHLer. Or a single-celled organism earning the league minimum. Or a semi-sentient pile of equipment. Or Zherdev. Or the fan in Section 217, row FF, seat 9. Or my eighth-grade phys ed teacher. Or an Ice Girl (not that I notice them. At all.). Or the empties in Richards' locker hot-glued into a sculpture of Shelley. Or Holmgren's bicycle. Or a fictional character (from classic literature, not animated television, as the latter would just be weird). Or a guest appearance by Ashton Kutcher. Or the remains of the Elephant Man (at least they'd have earned a roster spot based on Merrick). Or a troupe of midgets dressed in a Jody Shelley costume (skates optional). Or the CBA (paper format, not digital). Or Kimmo Timonen's toenail clippings ... sorry, overqualified. Or the missing puck from the 2009-10 Stanley Cup winning goal. Or any of Moamar Ghadafi's sons (especially Saif; he's badass).

I think you get the picture.

Sestito flew in the first preseason game, that's what I want for size on the 4th line. Hit people, fought, had some chances, kept up with the rest of the guys.

Shelley also took a dumb penalty trying to fight a scrub in Jay Rosehill, and for what? He's got nothing to prove. Just a waste.

You guys can always dump Shelley and take Scott off Hawks hands ,, Westgarth in LA can give you references on Scott's ability to hurt people

I dont recall Scott ever losing a fight

(note: it's the "Orange and Black" version of the song)

I'm sure Derrick Settlemyre will appreciate it when Shels is gone. Dude rips his jersey almost every game. Last year the jersey ripped right along the whole bottom hem:

I'm sure he will be among the next round of cuts. No one can validate his presence at the ridiculous cap hit, not to mention there are players who are much better than he is on the roster. If this guy is inserted in the lineup after his third suspension has concluded, Holmgren has to have his head examined.

I hope so... I hope and hope and hope. In the past, I didn't mind, was whatever. But this year, we have some strong kids who, in my mind, would obviously grind it out night in and night out for a shot on this team, and it would be a damn shame if Shelley is given that spot over them. Shelley had his chance, we have ample replacement, just cut him loose now.
