1) Markov is going to be out for a few months or has asked for a trade
2) Subban is traded with another component for Doughty
3) Spacek is going to be traded
4) Weber has asked for a trade if he's not a regular
5) Gauthier does not like what he see's so far and wants to add more depth a la last years problems

Start of the season:

Gill - Subban
Gorges - Campoli
Spacek - Yemelin
Diaz

Hrmm, enjoy.

He's ok on the point in the offensive zone - he'll sneak in for the back-door play and can make some decent passes. His shot isn't bad either, in that he won't go for the big wind up and get it blocked.

In the defensive zone, he can get running around after big forwards as he has trouble pinning them. I wouldn't call him a huge liability though. He was also the guy whose pass was picked off by Burrows for the GWG in OT in Game 7 against Chicago last year, but that was pretty rotten luck.

Bottom pairing guy. Put him with Gill or Gorges or something.

I know it's inevitable, especially with Habs fans, but I don't see what signing Campoli has to do with Markov?

IMO, the Campoli move is an indictment on guys like Woywitka, Mitera...maybe even Weber.

Campoli is just a depth dman, he's not here to replace anyone who could play in the top 4.

Have you guys been watching the Habs defense this preseason? They look putrid lol

If Weber is scratched in favour of Campoli... Even once. I won't be happy.

Pyloncard 2.0. le sigh.

Not a bad signing, and Campoli is certainly better than Sopel or Mara as a bottom-pairing vet. But I'm a little intrigued because the Habs have a pretty good blueline even in the absence of Markov. Interesting signing, even more interesting implications.

I don't know...i'm going to go out on limb here and guess that signing Campoli has NOTHING to do with ANY of the above.

Also, Chris Campol will NOT play in the top 4...

I'm guess the org isn't too reassured with Weber's play so far, and more than a little worried about Markov.

I like this signing, kind of suspected Habs would have interest.

People are worried about Markov, I think it is fine. If anything I think Weber is out.

I would've settled for John Madden but that's just me.

Carrying 8 D is very Habsesque. Now, tell me Yemelin stays...

Number 5 is your best bet.

No way markov wants to be traded. he just signed a huge contract. he is just injured.

Weber has no power to demand anything. He is playing awful.

Good blueline without markov? Who are you kidding?

What does it mean? It means our D core is no contender grade. At best, it was as good (or bad) as last season. I've said it: our D core worries me.

And I wasn't enthousiastic about signing Markov.

The patching starts early this season.

The Habs still have more than enough cap space to make an Halpern type signing should PG feel the need, whether it is Madden or someone else.

On the bright side, all the Italian-Montrealers will be happy lol.

Gionta, Cammalleri, Pacioretty and the newly added Campoli.

I'm starting to wonder if the Canadiens front office crossed the line with the Italian mob at some point and this is the payback.

according to Lebrun, they reached out yesterday & it came together quickly.

Must have not liked what they saw on the ice

It's a weird move, either something else is going to happen or the news regarding Markov isn't very good

When you have proven guys like Halpern and Hamrlik, you should make an effort to re-sign them !

Subban-Gorges-Yemelin-Spacek-Gill-Weber?

That's actually quite decent, assuming one judges Spacek based on his ability to prevent scoring chances rather than the way he's talked about on l'Antichambre.

Besides, have you seen what some of the other clubs in the East have?

Except Weber is a fringe NHL at this point. He has some potential but at the moment he isn't very good.
