Oh look people overreacting for a player that didn't cost an asset to acquire and one that hasn't even played yet. And look its the typical posters starting up the fear-mongering.
It has nothing to do with overreacting, this signing give a lot of questions about Markov and Subban. That's a weird move from PG, from what we know (and we don't know anything!) there's no use about signing another dman. So yes, we need to ask questions.
I really hope your sage objectivity is right. My first reaction -- like others -- is that this is a reaction to bad news.
No denying the defense has been an uncoordinated mess, though half the time it's an untested prospect making the mess. But... and here's a thought... maybe the reason we've been seeing an endless stream of teenaged plugs is precisely because the front-four have sprung a leak. Yes, it's back to paranoia, but maybe we're seeing so much Beaulieu and Woywitka because we're going to see so little Markov or Subban. I hope my fellow paranoids are wrong, but there's no other logical explanation for this deal.
Well yeah, obviously injuries are a big reason why we've seen so much of guys like Beaulieu & Woywitka...not to mention the packed preseason schedule which has the Habs playing the 4th game in 4 nights, tonight.
Again, this move is either because PG might be moving another one of the Habs dmen or as I have, he hasn't been very impressed by guys like Weber, Yemelin, Diaz, Woywitka & Mitera...none of these players has any extensive experience in the NHL and at least 2, if not 3 of them could start the season in Montreal.
Am i the only one who likes this signing? People are saying we had depth before but we didnt have quality depth IMO. Campoli will fit in well on our 3rd pairing IMO.
Doesn't look good for Weber imo. This has very little to do with Markov. I don't like it, I would of rather went through some growing pains with weber. Management doesn't seem to agree. Oh well, too many dman is a good problem, I suppose.
I think this a great depth signing. A guy who can float from 4-6 on the D depth chart. To me the doctors are being extra cautious with Markov's injury. But, I think they also see Weber not as a "Streit Light" for the Habs, the forwards and D don't really have a everyday spot for him...could be additional bait in another trade.

THANK YOU!
It seems some people confused "asking questions"/worried with complaining/overreacting.

Why is the Markov talk deemed speculation in regards to this ? To me it is very obvious that this signing has everything to do with Markov being out for LONG.
Some guys among Yemelin (not too impressive so far), Weber, Spacek, Woywitka or Campoli will see a lot of time on the bottom pairings... this is bad.

Its not a weird move at all. It was obvious Gauthier was looking for a defensemen when he offered hamrlik a contract. I've repeated this all summer long. Gauthier made an offer to Hamrlik because there was room in the defense, he never replaced Hamrlik. Now I'm not saying campoli will replace him, because he won't, but it was pretty obvious that there was still room in the defense and given Weber's play, it's not a surprising move in the slightest.
We didn't get the minute-eating dman we needed, but we got the mobility we've been lacking. If yemelin makes it, we'll have three dmen who can skate as opposed to one (subban)

A little unfair. This was a lineup that was well-stacked and full of potential, with a few million put aside for PG's famous rainy-days.
Now, I'd understand using that leftover cash to grab a superior talent, but this looks more like grabbing for a raincoat than a golden opportunity.
I'd claim excitement, but that would be a gross overstatement to a flat out lie.
Like others have said, as long as this isn't due to a prolonged injury to Markov or Subban (especially Subban, given Markov was already considered out).
Have you people watched the preseason and/or the past few seasons?
All of our fringe D haven't excelled so far this preseason, most have been putrid. Weber hasn't created anything offensively, which is supposed to be his strengh, Woywitka looks useless, Diaz is far from NHL caliber, and while Yemelin hasn't been too bad, he hasn't looked like a stud either.
Plus, with Markov already out and all the injuries we have had to our D in the past years, it's not inconceivable that we need more depth.
The only locks for our D core are Subban, Gill, Gorges, Spacek and now Campoli. That is only 5 players. There is still two spots left for Weber and Yemelin. Who knows when Markov will return or if another defenseman won't get injured before then. The only player who lost an NHL spot is Woywitka.

i like it. good depth signing...he's better than gill, weber and spacek imo - and will be asked to play pp and bottom pairing..and when markov is back he's a good option for 2nd pairing pp
