Mark this post, and talk to me in 4-5 months.. Listen to the blackhawk, ottawa fans they know what there talking about

guy on tsn says it best

Really? With Alex Henry at 6'6' 231lbs, Brendon Nash at 6'3' 210lbs, Jarred Tinodri at 6'6' 205lbs Jeff Woywitka at 6'3' 227lba and Alexei Yemelin at 6'2' 227lbs; Chris Campoli get's signed. An averge size D man to say the least with satisfactory skill? Not quite sure of the $1.75 mill. Get well soon Markov
Talent trumps size any day.

Alex Henry is from all accounts a nice guy, but he isn't good enough to play in the NHL. Tinordi is junior bound. Woywitka isn't exactly mean, or talented. And signing Campoli isn't the same thing as sending Yemelin back to Russia.

You fight with the Army you have or can have, not the one you want. If you can point out an NHL ready defender who is a free agent that is at least as talented as Campoli, but also has size and grit in excess of him, then do let everyone know.

No one will argue that Chris Pronger wouldn't have been a better singing, but the world doesn't work that way.

I think it is pretty clear that either Markov is out until at least Christmas, or Yemelin is back to Russia.

I find it very strange that MTL management is so quiet regarding Markov. They are renowned to always play their cards close to their chest, but this is really strange. Clearly they are trying to protect Markov, and don't want the media/fans finding out that his season could be in jeopardy.

We have updates on Eller, Desharnais, Subban and White, but not Markov. He is still skating on his own, at a very pedestrian pace. I can't imagine any situation where Markov progresses to practices with the team (no-contact) to contact practices and finally to game shape.

It is one thing skating on your own to test a knee out, but skating full speed, stopping and starting, turning and taking hits from players on a regular shift is totally different. His knee has not been exposed to those variables. For all we know, it will explode on the next body-check.

Markov is my favorite player, so I wish him the best of luck, but let's take off the blinders and call it as it is, not good.

Since Andrei Markov has been repeatedly mentioned in this thread:

TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie
My understanding on Markov is he gets some swelling in knee if he pushes rehab too hard, but no evidence at this point it's a major problem.

I guess management has no confidence whatsoever in Weber, and I hope this doesn't mean Subban will miss more than a couple games.

Scott Hannan was available for ages and signed for less.

Last seasons our D was slow has hell and I really think management don't want this to happen again and Hannan is slower than ever they choose to keep Gill has their slow vet and I can understand them to don't want another one on the team.

Elliotte Friedman on team 990 about signing:

-markov is not ready yet
-campoli wanted to go to a team that will either compete or get into playoffs
-campoli wanted to play on a team with quick forwards and excellent transition game to take advantage of his skating and passing

We need a guy who can play on the PP. No need for Hal Gill #2 on the PP.

Guys, this is a 1 year, 1.75M$ contract that will in no way make or destroy the Habs season. Allow me to borrow the wise words of the great philosopher Sir Carey Price III of Anahim Lake: ''Chill out''

Everyone relax I know its a weird move, but it could be a good one. Everyone on here arguing should just relax though seriously. Everyone here has their opinion and thats it. Now my opinion is that Weber won't get into the top 6 now and I don't like that at all, I thought he really proved himself in the preseason. Who knows there could be a trade in the works too but thats just speculation.

Also, an NHL team needs 9-10 NHL ready Ds for a season.

And about "brain cramps":

A D-man who makes turnovers is more valuable to your team than a guy who never does. A guy who makes turnovers handles the puck and is attempting to pass it; a guy who isn't is probably just clearing it by knocking it off the boards, which basically hands it to the other team, or worse, he never handles the puck.

Passers and players who handle the puck a lot make turnovers. It comes with the territory; nobody's perfect and the more you handle the puck the more you'll give it away. The last two full seasons he's played, Markov was top-5 in the whole league in giveways, keeping company with Joe Thornton.

For anyone questioning if this is a good signing or not, this might quell doubters a bit. Mckenzie just reported that Chicago would have re-signed Campoli if they'd won the arbitration case. They just couldn't afford to pay him 2.5 million.

- Decent puckmover
- Signed for a decent price and only one year
- Can help motivate guys like Weber, Yemelin and Spacek to pick up their games so they don't get scratched
- We didn't have to give up any assets
- Can be traded for an asset if our guys stay healthy and we don't need him

Don't see any reason to bash the signing, would rather have more talent on defense then have to trade picks to fill our D if there are any injuries.

Don't you know?

This means Markov is out for the season, maybe Subban too.

It also means Yemelin, Weber and Diaz are all busts.

Time to tank.

Meh the trade doesn't bother me, I have been saying our defense has been awful for years. We still need a top pairing guy like Regehr.
