I don't think I ever said it quite like that, but I've probably said something along the lines of: "Let's not pencil in Read just yet, he did after all only play a few games in the AHL last year. Let's see what he can do against the big boys before handing him a top nine spot."

If I haven't said it here, I'm sure I thought it at least. Can't see where that is so wrong. It's like when people want to get rid of Nödl and Betts and hand their places to other guys. I wouldn't mind if some other players comes in and outplays our regulars, but until they do... I'm not going to count on it.

Read has really impressed so far though. All over the ice and in all situations. I had no idea he was so good defensively.

I don't think it is okay for people to use that word, but sadly I do believe it is something that is said on a NHL rink all of the time. So it is right to single out Simmonds because what he said happened to be picked up? I don't know. Though I do think a message needs to be sent that these kind of slurs are unacceptable. It's a sticky situation.

BTW Avery called Laraque a monkey before so it's hard for me to feel that he is justified in his outrage.
