To the whiners still whining about stone hands Richards and playoff no show Carter, watch the replay of tonight's game and take note of Jagr and Giroux's chemistry. Then stop whining.

Matt Read is going to make this team. Brayden Shenn try again next year.

I still adore the Jagstastic. (I just came up with that now)

His puck control skills are ridiculous...I remember watching one of his shifts from tonight, and when one of the Rangers tried to backcheck them, he just shrugged them off like he was tossing a towel off of his shoulder.

A few more months until he is 40 and then he falls off the precipice...

The first part isn't going to win your any brownie points

Read will make the team

But not at the expense of Schenn.

Speaking of the departed, any idea how they've looked so far this pre-season?

Read has been fantastic. Besides Rinaldo, this guy has been just go go go. Non-stop at both ends of the ice and playing real smart. He's going to surprise a lot of people this year and I can see him getting 2nd line ice time.

That's only because Couturier is probably going to make it ahead of Schenn. No shame in that at all. I think Brayden came into Philadelphia with an expectation of him replacing everything Mike Richards did right off the bat. Maybe going to Adirondack for the first half of the season will do him some good. Get the spotlight off him, get him back to playing his game and maybe killing off some of outrageous expectations.

Couturier was coming in here with no expectations and he's been able to fly in under the radar. Nobody gave him a realistic chance of making the roster and that he was pretty much ear marked to go back to the QMJHL. Now, he's played his way into a third line role with his defense and his hockey sense (once again, there's something about being in the right place at the right time that you just can't teach).

The top two franchise prospects are being insulated and the organization is going to do the right thing with them. If Schenn does a Giroux in Adirondack (and I think he can), fantastic. Let's not forget that Claude faced similar scrutiny like Schenn and he handled a demotion to Adirondack really well. I expect the same from Schenn. Go to Adirondack, get to know your teammates, tear it up down there and then come back up and take things in stride when you get here.

Jagr had some really great words for Giroux, called him a "little mario lemieux".

I'm not sure Couturier is ready to stick up here yet. Tonight was my first look at him since the 1st TOR game, and he did look rather slow. I'm not putting too much into the lost corner battles, because if I recall he lost those against Girardi and Boyle. Offensively he looked sharp, and defensively he looks great. I still think he's a lock for the 9 game test to start the season and then he slides back to the Q.

Schenn may be the victim of that 9 games, but he'll play most of the season with the Flyers imo. He hasn't looked bad. He just isn't getting the stats.

I never like a honeymoon to get too saccharine.

There's something ominous about it.

I change my original prediction from 30 goals 40 assists 100 points to 40 goals 60 assists 100 points.

Jagr-Giroux-JVR have potential to be one of the best lines in hockey this year

Who was the last 60-60 player in the NHL? Was it Mario in '95-'96?

The real question I think you should ponder is if the Flyers can overcome the loss of 2 of their top 5 best all around players in "stone hands" and "playoff choker" with 3 rookies, a 3rd line plug, 2 recently enigmatic Czechs and the once loathed Quebecois bottom 6er.

In all honesty, I do truly believe the Flyers will be able to get the consistent production they need from Briere, Giroux, JVR, Hartnell, Jagr, and Voracek to be a competitive playoff caliber team in the East.

Were you one of those buffoons that was interviewed by Kevin Weeks at the "2012 Winter Classic Premier" that legitimately believes the Flyers got BETTER THIS COMING YEAR following the most recent off-season?

Be optimistic about the not so distant future, because I surely am, but I find it hard to believe many in the hockey know, which may or may not be mutually exclusive to the generalized members on this site, truly believe the Flyers will be better in 2011-2012 than they were in 2010-2011.

If the Flyers' attitude is a "Win Now" mindset, why replace 2 superb hockey players in their prime that excelled at a very high level during their tenure with the Flyers with 8 inconsistent puzzle pieces that depend heavily upon learning a new intensely fast paced system, the seamless understanding new defensive responsibilities and leadership roles, and the acquiring of compatible chemistry with line-mates.

Oh yea, how could I forget, the Flyers took the cold hard cash "saved" by losing their best face-off man, defensive forwards, versatile wingers, and glue guys and "won" a legitimate big money goalie that will statistically still give up about 2.5 goals per game with about a 92% Save Percentage...just like every other NHL goalie since the Lockout.
