Is it safe to eliminate Sestito and Schenn from...
the prospects fighting to make it list?
Sestito is gone for obvious reason's. Mainly his stupid check from behind tonight, and Rinaldo just plain being better.
Schenn has looked like he belongs. However coming from probably the biggest Schenn fan ever I think he's done. The injury plus only having a single assist has pretty much put him in the A for the year. It certainly doesn't help the Couturier and Read have been so good.
Schenn at most I can see him starting the year with the Phantoms to free up some cap space for Couturier to play 9 games, before his contract slides. Otherwise he's making the team.
I think Couturier has been better than Schenn so far, but I don't see Schenn being sent to the AHL. I think the fact that Lavi started with Couts on the 4th line shows how he sees the top 9 and unfortunately he isn't part of it. Jim Jackson made it sound like Lavi already has Simmonds, Schenn, and Read planned as the third line.
I think Sestito still has a shot at the 13th forward, mainly because they could lose him on waivers if he is sent down.
I think it's safe to say Sestito and Schenn are on the way to Adirondack and I don't think it's a bad thing. Sestito is too much of a cement head to be in the NHL. He seems to do something stupid every game and he just can't help himself. If he can't learn to pick and choose his spots and play like an idiot, he doesn't deserve to see time with the big club.
As for Schenn, I don't think there's anything wrong with him starting the year in the AHL. He came in here under circumstances that were just off the chart. He was expected to replace Richards and everything that Mike brought to the table. I liken his arrival to that of Giroux's - they both had unrealistic expectations placed on them to start and they were just weighed down by the burden of the expectations.
Allowing Schenn to start the season in Adirondack is a good thing. Get him to relax a bit, get him to not worry about the expectations and comparisons and more important, just get him to know his teammates and tear it up in Adirondack. Giroux was similar and he was better for it. Same with Schenn. Let him just play hockey and get back on track and loosen up.
Schenn will be fine. He will be our 3C this season and I don't think anyone is going to take that from him. Anyways, do we have a 3C that is better than him right now? Couturier I think is going down to bulk up, but wouldn't doubt it if he showed up sometimes during the season.

I thought couts was easily knocked off the puck but still managed to showed why he is so highly touted. Couts in the q, schenn in the ahl, and tostito also in the ahl

Then who's the 3rd line Center? Don't say Talbot...
I think he was commenting on the guy who wants Couturier in the Q and Schenn in the AHL.
It will be a huge mistake to have Talbot centering out 3rd line. Honestly, if it goes out there that Schenn is hurt longer than we think, I can see Couturier centering the 3rd line till Schenn gets back (which will hopefully be within 9 games)

Whats going on with schenn now? I was at the game tonight, but I guess I didn't notice anything. Was he taken out? I was too focused on jagrs dominance, and not
noticing schenn on the ice as per usual.

Upper body injury, supposedly not serious, but may be held out of the next preseason game as a precaution
He is the projected 3C and has been focusing on learning the system and how to play the PK since camp started, which is the reason why he has not put up that many points offensively imho.
He'll be fine in his role once the season starts...
Read should make it, if Nodl is lost for the year as a casualty of keeping Read (re-entry waiver fear) so be it.
Schenn has nothing left to prove in the AHL. The only upside for not having him up with the big club is the money saved...we could use Walker as the 6th guy, because he has definately been better than Lilja, Gusta, and Bartulis. Right now he's getting squeezed for cost.
I see no real bonus to keeping Couturier up this year. He will get no significant playing time. It would be one thing if we were the Oilers, but this is a deep team. Sucks that he has to go back to the Q instead of the AHL, but so be it.
