I haven't bought it yet. Are the Preds something like 79-95-95?

I hate the ratings system.

It bothers me that like 40 guys, totally incomparable talent levels and play styles are all like 78 overall. All the way from Jordan Eberle to Zach Stortini. What is that ****?

Because the rating is just an average of the individual categories. If Stortini has really high ratings on fighting skill, aggressiveness, body checking and the like then he will balance out at a similar average to a player who has high skill ratings.

I don't understand why this topic comes up with every release of the game. The players' overall ratings are not a ranking system.

It makes zero sense. As soon as I saw that the NYR were a top-3 team in the NHL, it lost a lot of credibility.

Heck, the player ratings went out the window when they made Fleury a 91, tied for the best goaltender in the NHL (according to EA).

Joke.

If your goalies are both 80+ overall, how do you end up with a 73 overall goaltending? Also, teams having 100 overall for stuff. What?

They may not be a ranking system but the AI teams use them as one to put together their lines. Which leads to players like Koivu ending up on fourth line while Kyle Chipchura and George Parros are 2nd/3rd liners.

Yeah, it's true. Like I said, I played for like two seconds and that's what I saw. Maybe when I get off work I'll go home and take a screenshot just for you, bud.

Edit: in fact, here's a result from a review for a search for "NHL 12 Rangers 100 Offense":
Really, my only complaints with NHL 12 arose in Season or Be a GM when the game didn’t recognize that the Rangers’ first two regular-season games were in Europe—and that the stats were so skewed that the Rangers’ offense was a 100. I love the Rangers, but even through the Broadway Blue–tinted glasses of a fan, I don’t see how adding Brad Richards and getting some guys healthy propels the team so far past last year’s squad.

So there you go, gumshoe

Washington was only 19th in GF last year though.

I think it is ridiculously funny that Tim Thomas received an 89 rating, good for 5th in the league, after having the best season a goalie has ever had and winning two out of three Vezinas.

The devs showed me exactly what's going on there...

Summed up, they are way off. All one needs to look at is Leafs' offense and Tim Thomas' 89 rating as previously stated.

Here's a tip, if you play Be a GM mode, nobody drafts Larsson, RNH, Huberdeau, Landeskog, or Gudbranson so you can just sign them for 3 years 2-way contracts at 750k a piece and have a stud team in 5 years no matter who you draft.

Gotta love the Avalanche goalie rating of 77 when Varly and Giggy are rated 84 and 82 or something like that.

Not to be hating on america or anything but why is team americas goaltending 100 while team canadas is 87 it doesn't make much sense yes luongo and broduer are not the best but they could have made it more even what's up with vancouvers goaltending being 97 washingtons being 95 etc. and whats up with edmontons off being 88 while washingtons is 84. Another thing is the overalls of teams don't say much when you have a team like the NYR in the 2013-2014 season 100 ovr and can't make the playoffs. maybe EA should start thinking of new ways to rate their teams based on chemistry last seasons performance, if the players are on a hot or cold streak, for example you can have as much overall as you wan't but if your players have been playing poorly lately or have bad chemistry the overall will drop something along the lines of that.
