That doesn't make marijuana sale, possession, or ingestion any more violent than calling buying a diamond ring a violent crime. And, obviously, the cartel violence is created by the illegality of the drugs in the first place.

Also some of it is not causation, e.g. the same personality traits that lead to a higher likelihood of accepting or seeking such a role likely lead to a higher predisposition towards criminal lifestyle

I realize it, but it's only "illegal contraband" because marijuana is illegal.

I'm actually a bit surprised. He was twice, by two different teams, nominated as that team's "Man of the Year" candidate in the AHL and was also recognized one year by the Amerks with a Community Service Award.

I'll let you guys go to town on the community service zingers now...

LOL you swear that the mexican drug cartels are fueled by marijuana... they make money off pot but it is small beans compared to what they make off of other illicit substances... put it this way, pot dealers don't arm themselves with AK 47s and home surveillance equipment.

I don't care if prune juice is what he smuggled. If it's illegal u don't smuggle it. Whatever your feelings are it's against the law and he's a dumbass. I may not agree with what he's facing in jail time but he knew the risk before hand. Good for him. Also it is a violent crime.

No one, including those that wrote the law, considers it a violent crime... so I don't see how you could possibly arrive at that conclusion. A violent crime has to contain an element of actual or implied violence.

exactly , its bs , if alcohol and tobacco products are legal there's no reason marijuana should be illegal

Once they can make a quick test for it, like a breathalyzer for alcohol, marijuana will be legal, and they will tax the Hecht out of it...

There is a "quick test for it" it's called an oral fluid test or OFD. It's a cotton swab used to detect use of the substance and gives an immediate test result, much like a Breath Alcohol Test.

Too bad for McMorrow. I've always been a fan, going back to his OHL days. In 01-02 he dominated the league. I think he had something like 75 fights in one season in the LNAH. His 1 NHL game was against the Leafs on HNIC but Domi wouldn't fight him.

Obviously it was a stupid thing to move "drugs" across the border, but Sean is a very, very nice guy off the ice. He does lots of community and charity work and is extremely friendly and treats people well. Hopefully with his history of community work he'll get a bit lighter sentence than he otherwise might. Again, I know it was very dumb to commit these "crimes" but McMorrow is a nice guy and this is crappy news.

Say what you will about fighting and McMorrow being one dimensional but he has always worked his butt off and made sure he put on a show for the fans and he's certainly earned every dollar he's ever made in hockey.

P.S. : his nickname the past couple of years has been "Sheriff"...I hope the irony wasn't lost on him.

Sean McMorrow was twice the #Amerks Man of the Year for involvement in the community but Judge Larimer noted the hypocricy upon sentencing.

Former #Amerk Sean McMorrow sentenced to 24 months in federal prison on drug conspiracy charges.

I was in a class in college with a guy who claimed to be his cousin. Every day he came into class and showed me youtube clips of his fights in LNAH. I'm starting to wonder if he was part of the drug ring.
