Happy 31st Sedins...apparently nearly left the NHL

Translated by Per, Canuckscorner's resident Swede and all around great guy:

Quote:
The Sedins Almost Quit
Wanted to leave the NHL after three years: ”were talked into staying”
The beginning of their NHL career was so tough the Sedins considered moving back home to Sweden.
That was then.
Now they are super stars with one dream left to fulfil: to win the Stanley Cup.

Imagine the pressure they would've been under had they been drafted by a team that didn't have a line like the WCE. Yes, Vancouver can be "fishbowl environment" to deal with, but it's a good situation to come in being '2nd fiddle' to Naslund, Bertuzzi and Morrison while learning you way around the league.

They certainly persevered through a lot of BS in their early days, and it was a long and difficult road to the stardom they have now. But they have a whole other kind of pressure to deal with now, what with the expectations this team has. Hopefully they continue to deliver.

Glad they stuck around. There were a lot of folks already calling them busts after their first 3 years in North America. Seems some things never change.

Pressure is pressure. Once you learn to deal with it, you learn to deal with it. It's literally just ignoring outside expectations and focusing on doing your job best.

It's been known for quite some time now that they were thinking of leaving. They wanted to try it out here for 3 years and then be satisfied with that and leave.

I remember in 2004 when Danny scored all 4 goals against Detroit in a 4-2 win. That was the first time I began to think we had something truly special.

Happy birthday guys!

(what a coincidence they both have the same birthday )

edit: Damn. Bogarted by RubberSoul.

Happy late birthday to two of the most under-appreciated elite stars in the league.
