i saw more offensive upside to dumont than engvist during training camp and I think he could be tried in a more offensive role in Hamilton than last year (dumont) He has more chance to develop an offensive touch in a better level playing 18 minutes a night in Hamilton than playing 8 minutes a night with defensive player in the nhl.

That's something that could have help me to send Dumont to Hamilton instead of Engvist... Engvist is more of a defensove player and in his role he is ready for fourth line duty.

Dumont, it's still undetermined where he could end up in the line up

For what it's worth I thought Dumont would last longer. Wasn't thinking he'd make the team but I thought he'd be one of the last cuts. Reminds me of Steve Begin a bit in the way he tried to finish every hit.

For Dumont, since he's had only 1 year of pro, if he were to stay he's got to play, whereas with Engqvist I don't think it will hurt him to sit in the pressbox most nights. I don't know how much last seasons results go into the decisions, but Engqvist was clearly much better then Dumont as they were often on the same line and while Engqvist was disappointing offensively, Dumont did next to nothing until the playoffs.

I'd rather see Dumont work on his offensive game now in Hamilton getting a lot of ice time then sitting in the press box once Moen and White are back, granted I know he's considered a future 4th liner but clearly he's got some offensive skills since he racked up the goals in his last year of juniors. Looking forward to seeing him make his NHL debut though, as I put little stock in preseason games but love the way the kid plays.

He does remind me a bit of Begin, just wish he'd fill out a little more.

Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta
Kostitsyn - Desharnais - Gallagher
Darche - Eller - Moen
White
Enqvist

Markov - Gorges
Gill - Subban
Campoli - Yemelin

No, we can't. Gallagher won't make the team and Eller won't center the 4th line.

I'm starting to think Weber starts the year as a forward until Eller/White return. You can't put a guy like Dumont or Gallagher in the lineup and put Weber in the press box.

Looks like Yemelin will be watching from the pressbox on Opening Night. He will work his way into the lineup at some point.

Not sure if Eller will be cleared for gameplay by then but Interesting to see Gallagher in that 3rd line spot. He is going to be given every oppurtunity to take that spot on opening night. 9 game-tryout? Full Season? Interesting to watch.

Arpon Basu said he wasn't wearing a non-contact jersey yesterday in practice.

Still don't know if he'll see any pre-season action or if he'll be ready for the regular season.

ALSO:

#Habs first PP unit sporting new a look: Cammalleri - Desharnais - Cole; Subban and PLEKANEC at L and R points.

#Habs 2nd PP unit has Kostitsyn, Diaz and Campoli rotating point positions. Gomez line up front.

I love the idea of Pleky on the point on the PP. Brad Richards is deadly back there and I see Plekanec as a very smart playmaker who can QB the PP much like B Richards. (At least until Marky is back)

Diaz is 9th on our defense depth. For healthy people even we have

Subban
Gorges
Gill
Spacek
Yemelin
Campoli
Weber

ahead of him. One might even argue Woywitka. The lineup for the next pre-season game(which is what practice is) is NOT the opening day lineup.

EDIT:
Gallagher doesn't even have a contract yet. How would he play a 9 game stint?

It sure looks like the coaches have a different idea concerning Diaz...so far at least...he has moved ahead of Yemelin...and into the top 6...we shall find out soon enough

For me Campoli is ahead of Yemelin so far.

I'm not too sure about Gill on the first pairing facing opposing top lines... he seems very rusty. I say let him find his groove and switch Gorges with him for now.

Gorges-Subban
Campoli-Gill
Spacek-Yemelin

The pairings could easily change between now and opening night. But this looks like Jacques first draft of an opening night roster. And judging by Diaz being paired with Spatcho and Yemelin with Woywitka... I think it safe to say he has Diaz higher on his Depth chart at this point.

As for Gallagher... They obviously would have to sign him first.

Yemelin should be playing ahead of Diaz for sure.

They could flip Yemelin and Diaz for the last game, both are playing on the right side.

Gill is notoriously slow out of the gate. Takes him a while to get going to full steam. Kind of like an aircraft carrier.

This. It's always the same thing with Gill. For the first month or two of the season, people want him out of the team; by the playoffs, he's everybody's favourite player.

I like this experiment much better than putting AK on the point (even if they're still trying it second unit). Pleks and Subban might just work well together. And I'm extremely pleased to see them trying out DD with the first unit. It may take him time to excel there, but why wait to find out?
