I wouldn't mind if the Blues claimed Wishart.
For every Grabner and Brysgalov there are 20 claims that don't pan out and hundreds taht pass through while never getting claimed or spend any time in the NHL later on.

Can we talk about collusion among NHL organizations. No one touching opponent's leftovers.

Oh I know. But just to say that every player on waivers blows is a little bit of a generalization.

You just explained precisely how it's nothing remotely close to collusion.

Wishart is a #7 defenseman now at best, give him 1-2 years he might turn out to be a decent #4 guy but if a team has playoffs hopes they can't afford wasting time now with him.

Only way I can see a team make a claim for Wishart is if they feel they most likely will end up a bottom 10 team and lack any defense prospects and feel it worth a shot for long term purposes taking him on.

Very true.

He's still a guy that you want to keep an eye on. I haven't been impressed with his very limited NHL appearances, but at the time of the Roloson trade, which was only ~8 months ago, he was still fairly highly-regarded. You never know what he makes of himself. Defensemen often take more time to develop anyway. I think another year down in the AHL will do him good.

^^^ When fantasy league standards collide with the real world NHL.

In the latter, third-line centers need to be able to play the game across the entire ice surface. Not simply collect some shiny points. If he proved capable of such, Hamill would have an NHL job. And an NHL roster should not be confused with a tryout. NHL coaches choose the 20+ players for their roster who they believe will help win them the most games, period. "Surprises" are reserved for Cracker Jack boxes and Christmas morning.

Thank you. The extent to which a few fawn over fringe NHLers (or less) is odd. To be sure, the odd player benefits from a change of scenary. But performance is evaluated on the ice. Not by draft position or DOB.

PS - "Collusion"?

Yes, NHL teams are conspiring not to pick up each others' trash.

If anything, Rutherford for the Canes has a penchant for "picking up other people's trash". Once in a while it works (Jussi Jokinen), but more often than not it doesn't (Samsonov, Anson Carter, Melicar, Patrick O'Sullivan, etc...)

It isn't collusion, it's just that most of these GMs have there own versions of Hamill in their system already so why pick up (and pay) another.

Yeah.. people like to think their team's mid-level prospects are special when really every team has a bunch of these guys and don't need more of them.

So of all the people waived this is the one guy who is claimed?

I wonder why. I'm not familiar with this player - can anybody offer some insight?

Bryz being waived was an entirely different situation. He wasn't waived because Anaheim didn't think he was good enough to play in the NHL...he was waived because Burke promised him the opportunity to become a starter somewhere since he couldn't do that in Anaheim. (Giguere had a huge contract and was still at the top of his game and they had Hiller in the wings) When he couldn't find any takers in offering him up for trade, he went ahead and waived him as a favor to Bryz, knowing he'd get claimed.

Sorry, don't know how to embed on here.

He's an AHL player, who could be a future 3rd line RW in the NHL. He adds depth and when he was called up for the Penguins, he played well.

Per Bob MacKenzie Twitter

Not sure if this is already posted someplace...

Sorry if it is...

More waivers: Durno, Matsumoto, Roy, Sanguinetti, Peters, Samson, Brett Sutter (all CAR); Bourque, Collins, McNeill (all WSH).

Surprised to See Brett Sutter here.
Is he struggling that much in CAR?

I want Pittsburgh to claim Bourque! We need another solid AHL LW in WBS.
