The Komisarek bit is kind of funny though. I mean is he pretty much saying they signed him to 4.5 per year to be a bottom pairing d-man? Since he's apparently now where they initially wanted him.
- Happy with Reimer, Monster in net this year. Never thought about getting a veteran backup. However, it's easy to acquire one if need be.
- Talked about expectations for Reimer this year. Great work ethic and mature.
- Time spent in the american league is well spent.
- Gardiner has a few holes, not that strong for example, "but kid can really skate".
- The Coach picks who makes the final roster.
- Comparing the defense of this year to last year. Watching the defense at the end of last year, with the FA additions you can tell it's an improved group. Beauchemin didn't get it done, Komisarek has been great at camp so far and admittedly tried to do too much after he signed a big contract. Praises Komisarek personality and appreciates what he can teach the young players coming through the system.
So far.....(srry about the gramatical errors, typing quickly)
- Confident in Reimer and Gus duo, will get Vet if it becomes necessary
- If Gardiner (and Aulie) make the team, they have to actually play (no sitting in the press box, basically)
- Komisarek is a positive influence on the team and Burke wants him in the dressing room, more valuable to the team than to the fanbase (mentioned Komi - Gardiner as potential pairing)
If I was Burke, I wouldn't give Bob McCown the time of day. This guy bashes the Leafs (and Burke for that matter) every chance he gets.
Yeah I hear ya. McCown barely takes the effort to even learn the player's names. He's a disgrace to sports broadcasting. Clearly he doesn't care about the local team he works in and covers them because he has to.
I'll listen to just about anything over McCown. Thank god for TSN 1050.
-Reimer's sudden acension was no fluke. it's a combination of a big, athletic kid with great work ethic, and the advantage he's been given to learn from Allaire as a goalie coach.
-You need to have great work ethic to work with Allaire because he works his goalies like dogs.
Gardiner:
-When he trade for Gardiner he told him up front that he likes to put his young guys in the AHL, thinks time spent in the AHL is valuable (named Penner, Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, etc).
-But he's playing so well that he could very well make the team.
-But he'll only be up with the big squad if he's playing, he won't be with the Leafs just to sit in the press box.
"He still has some holes in his game, he's not that strong yet. But boy can he skate. We're a different team with him in the lineup"
Aulie:
-Had a great second half for us last year.
-Not considering sending him down to the AHL at this point. But if he's up he'll be playing, not sitting most games in the press box.
Komisarek:
-Been very happy with Komisarek's camp so far.
-He's a guy (like Beauchemin) who tried to do too much to justify his contract and the fans got on him a bit. But look for him to settle into his proper role and excel.
-If Gardiner is up, they're looking at those two as partners.
-Komisarek is a great positive presence in the room, great with young guys, great work ethic, WE WANT HIM IN THE ROOM WITH OUR YOUNG PLAYERS.
Wilson:
-He's done a good job based on the players he's been given to work with.
-Notes that the team is 6 games over .500 since Phaneuf trade.
-Says Wilson hasn't lost the room: no player grumblings, no agents calling asking for a trade, etc.
-I (burke) have not given him enough firepower to make him successful.
-Every NHL coach's job is on the line, Wilson is no different
-If team gets off to a good start, Wilson could get an extension
- Thinks the team Wilson has been given hasn't been good enough the past couple of years, doesn't warrant firing him. He has to earn his next contract. A good start could warrant an extension.
- Didn't think the homophobic slur used was meant to be literal, but is extremely offensive and shouldn't ever be used.

Yes that has been McCown's schtick for some time. All tough and full of bluster until he has the guest i.e.Burke, Bettman then it is one giant suck-up. He really is grossly over-rated !!! He has no intregrity! He is more of a sham than the suits he always criticizes as he tries to be so GQ cool!
Burke says he didn't give Wilson the pieces yet he had no problem letting go 2 of his asst's ? Burke sounds like he'll use any excuse to reward his BFF with a new deal .

Not really. Burke could have extended Wilson by now if he really wanted, that would have been the path of least resistance. He chose not to do it thusly putting Wilson under the gun to perform early and consistantly. He will have a very hard time justifying a contract extension if the Leafs are struggling. He could have taken the easy route with his BFF and chose not to.

yea no kidding
i used to listen to him all of last season (i switched to tsn 1050), and he used to bash the leafs mercilessly until burke comes on, at which point it's all softball questions
bobcat-cox convos usually consist of an orgy of leaf bashing

Burke doesn't own the team and he still has to answer to the board . How could he justify giving RW an extension during the summer based on the teams performance under Wilson .BB goes on and on how coaching wasn't a problem yet he had no trouble dumping the 2 asst's . So if we get off to a 4 and 0 start like last year does that mean RW gets his extension . BB didn't lay out what he believes is the criteria for a new deal.
Also does he actual think people believe he bs about Komi ?
with Aulie going back to the A. Seems reasonable to me. Aulie has been alright but has only played 40 games in the NHL regular season. Aulie would clearly benefit from more time in the AHL. The way Gunnarsson has been playing, and with almost 3 times as many games in the big league compared to Aulie there's no way they send him down. I can't really see Gunnarsson benefiting from more time in the AHL at this point either. Gardiner has been great so they will give him a try, if he sucks, Aulie will come back up.
As much as people might want to send Komisarek to the Marlies it's not going to happen.

Burke did state that the coaching had become stale and that is why he made the change to the assistants. Hope that helps you.
I doubt that Wilson feels as comfortable as you have invented that he is.

All Burkes moves (really his reason for living) are made to keep his good friend employed. Would Wilson ever have a hope of getting a job in this League if his buddy didn't run a team? Hasn't Burke protected him his whole career?
