Nashville does have quite a number of young good players that are going to be look to be paid next year.

Kostitsyn, Colin Wilson, Tootoo, Blake Geoffrion, Colin Wilson, Cal Oreilly, Weber, Suter, Pekka Rinne, Lindback.

I mean nashville isnt going to be abale to afford to pay all of these guys, I know some are RFA but they just dont have the money there to pay everyone.

The issue would be the 1.2 mil he is paid this year, depending on how Nashville's finances are.
No judging here. Don't you think it will be someone with a larger cap hit though?

I'm a little confused why they are making a salary dump at this point? According to CapGeek, we can fit under the cap pretty easily as it stands (requiring only a waiving of Shelley, which I guess they are reluctant to do for some reason???)...

FORWARDS
James Van Riemsdyk ($1.654m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($2.250m)
Jaromir Jagr ($3.300m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m) / Scott Hartnell ($4.200m)
Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m)
Matt Read ($0.900m) / Blair Betts ($0.700m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m)
/ / Andreas Nodl ($0.845m)

DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Chris Pronger ($4.921m)
Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Matt Carle ($3.437m)
Braydon Coburn ($3.200m) / Andreas Lilja ($0.737m)
Oskars Bartulis ($0.600m)

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.666m) / Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m)

CARRY-OVER BONUS PENALTY: $1,402,500

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,133,095; BONUSES: $4,265,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $166,905

I guess, they either don't want to waive Shelley or they want one of Read/Couturier/Schenn to play on the second line and leave the 4th line as Talbot-Betts-Nodl. Ugh, I hate when rumors come up like this!

If Lappy get's LTIRd than we ought to have adequate funds on top of it.

If he doesn't get LTIRd for whatever reason, well...****.

They have to trade a contract to fit Couturier in full time. Right now he isn't one of the 50, but he will if he makes it past 9 games.

I guess you like Colin Wilson.

How happy are Nashville with their bottom six forwards? Maybe this is something a lot smaller than what's being speculated and it turns out to be Nödl for a pick or something like that?

That, and it wouldn't leave much room in case of injuries. Having just about 150k in cap space is usually not nearly enough for a full season.

Ya sorry double name post...But I think their bottom six is a strength on their team, it is the top 6 that seems sort of thin.

The rumour is definately hartnell

I'm not a fan of moving Hartnell at this point. His cap hit has become more tolerable due to the cap rising like it has, and compared to players who play the same style his contract is pretty fair. (When he's playing like he can)

Hartnell is a heck of a lot more important to this club than many folks realize.....Nobody consistently crashes the net like Hartnell, especially during playoff time...Keep Hartnell here no matter what his cap hit is at the moment.

We also kind of need him for his defense at this point.

Yeah, I know that, but it wouldn't be the first time there is a rumour about a big name trade, only for it to turn out to be two career minor leaguers apparently selected at random being traded.

Could be just me wishing it isn't Hartnell though. I think he'll be really important to this team this year.

I'd rather not trade Hartnell to make room for Couturier, but if they can get something of value (high round draft pick + NHLer/solid prospect) then I'm all for it. I just don't see that happening.

Has Hartnell written all over it.

Who else could it be?

Unless we got one of their high end defensive prospects back like Blum/Ellis, I would rather not move Hartnell.

One of Shelley, Leigton, or Walker and a 2nd round pick for a 7th.

Hartnell stays imo unless its huge deal (which i highly doubt). Paul was talking all summer about getting bigger on the wings and trading Hartnell would be counterproductive. With that said this is Holmgren we are talking about.

With lappy on LTIR and Read making the team the cap space sits at 442K. This is of course assuming the 6th/7th D spots are Lilja and Bart w/ Shelley as the 13th forward. Most likely something will be done because there is no wiggle room but like most of you I hope it's just the waiving of Shelley or something small.

So if Hartnell goes, who are our best defensive forwards?
