This might be a homer comment, but it seems like the Caps need to put shots on goal. I say on goal as opposed to "take more shots" because, like many times last year, it seems like they are trying to pick spots and missing wide or high.
Gretzky's quote goes something like "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take", the Caps should realize that shots not on goal are shots not taken.
Also, penalties much? Vokoun can't be left to clean up everything, maybe we need some Erskine to show people how to clean the crease.
P.S., not being able to watch any preseason games makes it tough to analyze anything.
Two of the goals were from forwards on top of the crease entirely uncovered. A third from an uncovered Weber in the slot. The fourth another lateral slot area puck movement goal. All pretty tough to ask your goaltender to stop. Stoppable I suppose but the blame ought to lie in front of him. D/slot area coverage was bad and their O zone puck movement was poor. Not much jump overall.
Anyone who actually watched Vokoun last year would tell you he had bad games. FLA fans were frustrated. It's still a good deal, but this savior talk is way pre-mature.
Far more interesting is that the veteran Caps are playing like ****.
I wonder if Boudreau can actually command their attention to detail after 4 years of being their friend.
Hopefully. Vokoun hasn't shown much yet. Has he been known to be a slow starter?
Not here to troll, but I wouldn't worry about Vokoun. When he first came over from Nashville, it definitely took him a few weeks to start looking comfortable. You guys have a solid team though, it shouldn't take long for him to regain form.
This preseason neither confirms nor refutes my theory on BB. I think he is a subpar coach based on past precedent, but since the front office decided to give him another year, they might as well give it at least 20 games or so.
Sans rebuild time I find preseason somewhat intolerable.
I agree. It means nothing. I don't even care to follow any of them. 99% of our roster is fixed unlike some other teams who have younger guys fighting for spots. Why go all out in preseason when this is the case?
