FLYERS-DEVILS' 2010-11 SERIES RECAP AND 2011-12 SEASON SCHEDULE:
  • November 27, 2010 -- Travis Zajac scored the SO winner (2-1) in NJ's 2-1 home win. The Flyers led the shootout 1-0 when Nikolay Zherdev scored in the third round but Jason Arnott tied it. Johan Hedberg made 40 saves and was 3-for-4 in the shootout and was selected the game's top star. Danny Briere tied the game with a PPG midway in the third period. Philly held a 41-25 shots advantage including 28-11 combined in the second and third periods. The game totalled 10 PIMs. It was the second straight shootout loss for the Flyers in as many days leading Blair Betts to say “You can feel it (lack of passion). The atmosphere was light and there wasn’t enough emotion or intensity, even before we went on the ice. You kind of felt it yesterday against Calgary and it’s something we have to fix.” Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30S83syc1ds
  • December 4, 2010 --Mike Richards (1-1-2, +3), who scored the tie-breaking goal 3:37 into the third period, and Jeff Carter (1-2-3) were the game's top two stars in Philly's 5-3 home win. Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves including a key stop on Ilya Kovalchuk's breakaway with the score tied 2-2. Kovalchuk earlier scored his second goal in the past 17 games. The Devils' PP was 1-for-43 on the road but went 2-for-3 in this game including making the score 4-3 with 44 seconds to play. The Flyers' struggling PP went 0-for-3 and fell into a 2-for-41 slump. Philly dominated the second period 14-4 on shots and scored the lone goal to tie the game 2-2. In the third, the Flyers scored three times including Carter's ENG. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDtKOLfVz7I

  • January 6, 2011 -- The line of Danny Briere (2-0-2), who scored twice in the third period, Scott Hartnell (2-0-2), who scored twice in the second period, and Ville Leino (0-3-3) who had a career-high three assists, combined for seven points and were named the top three stars in the Flyers' 4-2 win at N.J. Hartnell's second goal tied the game 2-2 with 1:06 remaining in the middle period. David Clarkson gave the Devils a 2-1 lead with 2:20 left in the second period, a goal confirmed by video replay after play had continued. Matt Carle added two assists. Brian Boucher made 18 saves and improved to 8-1-1, with a 2.07 GAA and .929 save percentage in his last 10 starts. Each team had 20 shots, Philly had a 7-2 advantage in the second period and the Devils had an 11-6 edge in the third period despite being out-scored 2-0. The Flyers had just two PIMs while the Devils had eight. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgLr0HOwMPU

  • January 8, 2011 -- Brian Boucher made 34 saves and backed the Flyers to a home-and-home sweep with a 2-1 win in Philadelphia. James van Riemsdyk, the game's top star, and Danny Briere (PPG) scored first period goals. Johan Hedberg (8 saves, 10 shots) was replaced by Martin Brodeur who was a perfect 19-for-19 and earned second star status. New Jersey lost its 11th straight road game. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r61bBvAkYLo

I haven't been on here much lately, but i'd just like to say thanks again M.S.E...I got thinking as to the effort (even if you do have a lot of this on file ) that is put into these GDTs...Your preseason GDT is better than 98% of other boards regular game GDTs. Hope to see you continue to stick around buddy, you'd be sorely missed.

P.S I think you'd dig a tshirt I recently purchased

Cheers buddy.

So, unless Hartnell is cleared to play (maybe he's already been that, I'm not sure), we have to call someone up or go with 7 defenders. Time for pp specialist Garrett Klotz to shine, perhaps?

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren has been saying for weeks now that he remains "very optimistic" that captain Chris Pronger will make his season debut with the rest of the team next Thursday in Boston.

We just didn't know he was really that optimistic.

Pronger, set to turn 37 on Oct. 10, will make his preseason debut tonight against New Jersey at the Wells Fargo Center. Tonight's game, one of the final two preseason tune-ups, will be televised on Versus and Comcast SportsNet.

"I'm looking forward to just getting into some game action," Pronger said in a statement released by the team. "You can only practice so much and try to prepare that way, but there's not like some good, old fashioned live-action hockey. You can't simulate that.

"Decisions need to be quicker and obviously the pace of the game is a lot quicker, so getting into that action is what you need to prepare for the season."

The decision was left to him yesterday and my sense is that he'll determine what he can and can't do, through the eyes of the coaches of course.

I'll post the reply from the GDT.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him take PP shifts and maybe only a few ES shifts

I wouldn't play him a lot this game. Limit him to 10-15 mins

Brodeur is the Devils' goalie tonight.

Update: Matt Taormina will not play, upper body injury.

The unofficial lineup for the Devils...

Quote:
At this point, the Devils’ lineup is not official, but, based on who is skating right now, this is their likely lineup against the Flyers with one decision to be made on defense..

Forwards: Zach Parise-Patrik Elias-Petr Sykora; Ilya Kovalchuk-Jacob Josefson-Nick Palmieri; David Steckel, Rod Pelley, Brad Mills, Cam Janssen, Stephane Veilleux, Steve Bernier..

Defensemen (one to sit): Bryce Salvador, Andy Greene, Adam Larsson, Henrik Tallinder, Mark Fayne, Matt Taormina, Anton Stralman.

Goaltenders: Martin Brodeur, Keith Kinkaid

Brodeur hasn't scared me since 2004. Not just that he's old, it's that the rules and the way his team is structured no longer allow the fortress devils to be put up in front of him. It's like a running back with a great offensive line.
