If they trade Hartnell (which I am thinking they aren't at this point in time) 24/7 just got a whole lot boring on the Flyers side.
We could only hope Pronger is his usual jerk self, Lavy drops the F-Bomb more than Boudreau, and we have a new team boozer if none of this is applicable I say we acquire Paul Bissonnette.

Would love BizNasty just for 24/7 haha Wouldn't want him stepping foot on the ice ever though.
So we trade Hartnell, rather interesting to look at our top 10 scorers from last year knowing that only 3 remain. And to replace them we have NHL goals last year; Jagr (0), Schenn (0), Simmonds (14), Voracek (14), Talbot (8), Read (0), Couturier (0).
Dat makes me nervous.
too many tangibles to take into account, in the end last year is just that, last year.
The hope is that Bryz will make up for any lack of scoring. Though i do think the PP will be a lot better this year. ES they might not be as strong, but they did get faster, and might be able to check a bit better.
Maybe Hartnell + 2012 The Kings 2nd or Panthers 2nd's (2012 or 2013, Panthers choice) + Our 3rd 2012 or 2013 our choice
for
Ellis + like a 3-5th 2012 or 2013 Preds choice or some BS
Even in the best case, where they flip 3rds, that deal basically comes down to Hartnell + 2nd for Ellis.
Seems just a bit rich, doesn't it? A legit top 6 winger on a reasonable contract for a prospect who projects, at best, to a 2nd pairing, pp specialist.

Ellis is Nashville's top rated prospect. If he came to us that could spell the end for Gus. You just cannot have a team of water bugs for your defense.
There is, btw, a video up on tsn.ca where Bob McKenzie says he believes Weber probably gets traded in the next 12 month because the Preds won't be able to sign all of Rinne, Suter and him to long-term contract.
If you think about it, they would probably add around $19-20m to their payroll long-term.

Suters rights traded to Philly on June 27th 2012. Its going down.

Also, SK is an RFA after this year so in addition to Suter, Weber and Rinne all needing new contracts and raises after the season you can add SK to that list too. That's their top 2 dmen, starting goalie and one of their top 6 forwards all needing to be resigned and due raises, that is a LOT of additional money to be laid out by a team on a budget.
I am really not looking forward to the physicality of our top 6 group if we do trade Hartnell. Or even our whole team.
Giroux is feisty as is Briere, they play bigger than they are. Simmonds is a very physical forward, same with Schenn, Betts, Shelley, JVR and Talbot are all physical. JVR started using his size and body at the end of last year in the playoffs, we have plenty of phyisicality upfront.
I say we have some fun with some of those web rumor sites who patrol here looking for their "inside" information and make up a nice juicy rumor for them. I'll get it started but feel free to add to this one or make up your own. Who knows, maybe we can start our own Ektard site.

Sources inside the Philadelphia Flyers say they are working on 2 major trades for before the beginning of the season next Thursday in Boston. With the emergence of a number of rookies in camp this year (Sean Couturier and Matt Read to name just two) there is a surplus of forwards in Philadelphia. The Nashville Preds are in the market for a top 6 forward, they have a number or players in the last year of their contract and expecting big raises after the year and are a team on a budget. A deal seems to be in the works where the Flyers acquire Ryan Suter to bolster a defense with question marks surrounding aging vets Chris Pronger and Kimmon Timonen. Reportedly the asking price for Suter from the Preds is recently acquired winger Jacob Voracek and their 1st and 2nd round picks in the 2012 draft.
Once they acquire Suter, the Flyers are reportedly ready to move a defenseman. It is no secret that the StL Blues are in the market for a big defensive dman to play on their top pairing with their budding #1 dman Alex Pietrangelo and reports are they are interested in Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn. The Blues are reportedly willing to part with their 2012 1st round pick to add Coburn to their blue line this year.
There you go, rumor started
Basically, we turn Voracek, Coburn and a 2nd into Suter and moving up about 10 spots in the 1st rnd in the 2012 draft. What do you guys think? Does is sound viable? does it sound like something Ektard would make up?

This just puts us further in cap hell lol. Coburn and Voracek combined bareley cover Suter.

I was originally responding to this because I thought it was a real rumor from somewhere. Haha.
I think you guys are going to be both very happy and very surprise with Wayne Simmonds this year. I think he's going to make Hartnell an after-thought for everyone this year. Simmonds is a better skater than Hartnell so he shouldn't be taking those stupid penalties that Hartnell does because he doesn't move his feet. Simmonds plays a very similar style to Hartnell and if given top 6 minutes I think he'll put up numbers very similar to Hartnell.

Coburn + Voracek = 5.45 mil
Suter + Couturier = 4.875 mil
We save 0.575 mil in cap space this year. Next year the cap will be going up a minimum of 6 mil (the amount due to each team with the new TV deal) and will most likely raise about 10 mil (barring an accross the board reduction similar to what they did in the last CBA). We'd have plenty of money to resign Suter next year.
Also, remember, this is a completely made up rumor in the hopes of seeing it on Ektards site later today

Uhh, you sure about that? Seems like a bit much to me. Not saying you're wrong but I just haven't heard that from anywhere.

Yes, I am positive regarding the new TV contract. It has been well documented. NBC and Verses renewed their contract with the NHL for the start of this season. NBC will carry even more games then under the old contract and the new deal is reportedly worth 180 mil dollars more than the previous deal. That equates to an additional 6 mil in national TV money to every team. This will show up as an additional 6 mil in revenue for the 2011/12 season and will be reflected in each teams end-of-the-year statement.
Even in a down economy teams have "averaged" an increase of about 8 mil a year (player percentage towards the cap is about 4 mil), hence the cap going up about that much every year even during a down economy. If teams just continue that average growth of their own of 8 mil and you add in the increased TV revenue of 6 mil (player percentage towards the cap of about 3 mil) it's not inconceavable for the cap to rise to 70+ mil for next season.
I know that's a HUGE jump but remember, it's all predicated upon the players salaries being a PERCENTAGE of the teams total revenue. Even with us needing a new CBA for next year and with the possibility of the owners wanting to reduce that cap number I don't think it will be by very much. Remember with the cap being a percentage of the leagues revenues, to REDUCE the cap means you'd be asking the players to take a LESS percentage than they currently are getting. I really don't see them agreeing to any major decrease in their slice of the pie so I DO think that it's going to be around 70 mil for next year.
