Pretty sure that's incorrect. All cap projections assumed no Leighton and no Walker.

No Leighton, no Walker, and with Lappy removed (AKA assuming utilization of LTIR)

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Matt Carle ($3.437m)
Braydon Coburn ($3.200m) / Andreas Lilja ($0.737m)
Oskars Bartulis ($0.600m)

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.666m) / Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m)

CARRY-OVER BONUS PENALTY: $1,402,500

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $65,233,095; BONUSES: $4,265,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): -$933,095

Shelley is going to count while he is suspended, so if they intend to keep Schenn, Couturier, and Read they are still over 900k over.

I'm kind of starting to think there's a chance Schenn starts in the AHL tbh.

yeah Leighton and Walker are not on the Flyers Cap projections. Then again, either is Matt Read. hence the trade rumors.

They could easily do without Blair Betts.

They could waive both Betts and Bartulis if they wanted and be able to field the roster they want, but they would not have a 13th F or 7th D for a time.

Anyone know if the Flyer's can't waive Shelley and be rid of him while he's suspended? If he can, that is the logical solution. Whether or no they'd do that, I don't know.

Holmgren waived Sestito when he received his suspension so I don't see why they can't do the same thing with Smelly Shelly......

Disagree completely. Betts is still a solid veteran player on the PK.

His shoulder is done. If it gets hurt again, he's rendered useless. Might as well use someone like Talbot in that role and move Betts to the wing.

If his shoulder was done, he wouldn't be playing. Betts was never a great faceoff guy to start with. But he is still a solid player on the PK.

At his cap hit, Betts needs to stay. Our PK will be a complete bumble**** if we ditch him, it's been gutted enough already.

Have Talbot center the 4th line, move Betts to wing.

Wasn't Betts brought into the flyers as a key face-off man.

No, he was waived before the suspension came down.

He was at 53 and 52% the first two season after the lockout, after that he's been around 50%. He came to us after a succesful tryout, no one had wanted to give him a contract due to fears that his injuries were too severe iirc. I don't remember if Homer said anything specifically about his face-off abilities at the time, but that summer we'd signed Lappy whom Homer said would help out in the face-off circle. His stellar 43.9% the year before that was a clear indicator of that, I assume.

A player who is suspended can be waived.

If he is recalled, he must still sit out the games he had been suspended, so theoretically, we could waive Shelley with no CAP penalty, but if ever recalled, he would have to sit out 5 on the roster and CAP, before being able to play.

Yes, he would have to sit out the 5 games if he's on the Flyers. But they would not get the full Cap relief due to him being a repeat offender. The Flyers would net a 67K savings on the Cap if Shelley stays on the roster.

I don't get the Leighton hate. He helped get this team to a Cup final by playing way over his head when they needed it most.

Well, he let in THAT goal in the finals and that's why he became the ultimate scape goat.

Unlike Boosh, who let in week goals on a daily basis but will always remain a fan favourite

It's needed to balance out the Leighton lovers.

Let me explain. I believe that objectively Leighton should neither be loved nor hated. He was thrown into the situation by management in 2010, he didn't ask for it. He played solid for the most part of the playoffs considering his limited talent. I don't think he won anything for the flyers but at least he didn't lose anything too important either. For that stretch fans should respect him.

Then came the finals (a.k.a. "when they needed him most") and he **** the bed. It's been widely accepted that with an adequate goalie the flyers likely would have won. Also, every fan will forever have the image of the deciding goal in their memory and it's not flattering for Leighton.

Then he kept his injury a secret to get a contract. Maybe he really didn't think the injury would be a problem, more likely he wanted to have the only payday he could ever hope for.

So, in short, some positives, more negatives but for the most part he is not to blame. He performed like you would expect a player of his caliber to perform. It was management who wanted us to believe that he is anything more than average AHL talent.

And yet there are still people claiming that Leighton single-handedly led the flyers to the cup finals and that losing it wasn't his fault but a "team effort". To balance that out, people tend to "hate" Leighton instead of being merely critical of him.

I don't hate Leighton, but boy, am I glad that he is gone.
