well, thing is, even him hitting god knows how many posts is better than palushaj, our next to line to be promoted to big club, ever did.

Yeah I'd take Gallagher or Palusjah any day, even including Friturday.

I personally think they will decide tonight, Tampa should have a though lineup as well and Habs wanna see how he can perform. If he does well I wouldn't be surprised if he starts the year and they make him play 9 games
Fair enough. I mean that he should set it as his target and that it would be an enormously positive step in his development, not that he can't develop without it. Also, I said I'd be concerned if they kept him beyond the nine games. Which I'm mostly confident they won't do.

The Habs are giving him every opportunity to make it, and playing with the top 6 guys against the other teams top 6 is a good measuring stick for PG and JM tonight and Saturday if they want a final look.

Not sure if it was mentioned but Bob McKenzie just tweeted that the deadline to sign junior players picked in the 4th round or later have to be signed by 5:00 pm Saturday to play in the 11-12 season. So tonight is really the big test for him if they want to give him even the 9 game tryout. I hope he does well and makes it because he is an exciting player.

In theory, I would love to have him as a 3rd liner alongside Eller and AK, with DD being the floating player between the first 3 lines. (he'd be a waste of epic proportion on the 4th line)

But in the end, the problem is the limit of players under contract. We have 2 spots left. Do we wanna blow half of it on a player who will play 9 games or serve as little more than injury backup?

False!!!

Depending of the injuries, there is maybe a place.

With everyone healthy, you are right, there is no place. but there is always injuries. As of now, two or three regulars might (nothing is confirmed yet) miss the opening night. (eller, moen and white)

Is it possible that the Habs keep Galager and send Desharnais to Hamilton? Would he have to go through waivers?

Dasharnais has a 1 way deal and has absolutely nothing else to learn in the AHL.

Waivers have nothing to do with 1 or 2 way deals. It's all based off a combination of age, games played, and years in the league. A 1 way deal means he would get the same salary in the NHL as the AHL, where a 2 way deal is different compensation in each league.

Nevertheless, DD has 100 more reasons to be in the NHL than Ghallager.

Yes he does. This season he does anyway. Lets not get too excited, this kid has been impressive but he's 19 and physically immature. Let him play on Team Canada and dominate the WHL, then there'll be a temporary spot for him in Hamilton, then he can join the bigs.

What I was trying to say is if the Habs were that comfortable giving him that contract it's because they had a spot for him and didn't see him going back down. I doubt they send DD down to make room for Gallagher it just doesn't make sense

1. He's physically mature.
2. He's mentally mature.
3. He's shown to be productive at the NHL level.
4. He doesn't miss empty nets.
5. You don't need any other reasons.

Arg. Sorry, bad typo. I meant it as "is 100 more worthy of the NHL"

My mistake, sorry :-(

Thing is, Desharnais is proven material with promising Top 6 capacity. He fits well with quite a lot of other teammate because of shares experience with them, and has been hardened through JM's system.

Plus, we know he's not a social liabilty that's going to go out partying in Montreal regurlary. That's the kind of stuff that lowers the prospect's quality.

The only thing we know of Ghallager is that he's currently on a streak and seems to be comfortable here. That just doesn't weight in as much as DD's record.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

It would be foolish to waste 1 year of his entry level contract for 10 games.

But it would be better to not waste 1 year of his entry level by playing him in 9 games.

My understanding is that the 9 game tryout doesn't waste anything. As long as he's returned to junior before game ten, his contract comes off the 50 limit cap and only goes into effect when he turns pro (or becomes an over-ager in junior, not that this player is likely to). When he does turn pro, the first year of his ELC goes into effect. So from a contract point of view, there is no harm in the 9 game tryout scenario, as long as you're committed to signing the player eventually anyway.

That's why you give him only 9 games, it doesn't burn a year. I hate rushing prospects which is why I wouldn't keep him up for more than 9 games.

It sends a big message to Palushji, Avtsin, Trotter etc... That if you step up, you will be rewarded. If we have 2 long term top 6 injuries, after AK & DD, we don't have anyone to step up.

More importantly, we are without our offensive catalyst in Markov and getting a good start to the season is integral to making the playoffs.

Gio sucked at the beginning of last year, Gill looks awful, Eller will be rusty, Gomez can use all the top 6 support to get some confidence going, Price has yet to look lights out.

All being said we have a tonne of minor injuriesand there are a bunch of question marks surrounding our D, we can use all the firepower we can get to start the season.

I say ride the hot streak for 9 games, it worked for us with Halak.
