I think you guys are going to be both very happy and very surprise with Wayne Simmonds this year. I think he's going to make Hartnell an after-thought for everyone this year. Simmonds is a better skater than Hartnell so he shouldn't be taking those stupid penalties that Hartnell does because he doesn't move his feet. Simmonds plays a very similar style to Hartnell and if given top 6 minutes I think he'll put up numbers very similar to Hartnell.
Except the fact that, Simmonds 2-way play is not up to par as Hartnell.

I don't know if this is true. Hartnell isn't that great defensively and all too often makes stupid mistakes BECAUSE he isn't nearly as good defensively as some on here believe him to be. Hell, as just a 2nd year player JVR was much better than him in the defensive zone. Also, there is a reason that Simmonds has been pencilled in on the 3rd line with Schenn (and Talbot) for our shut-down line and it's not just because he plays physical. Simmonds is solid defensively, not great but not a hinderance either.
Last year Richards, Carter, Versteeg, JVR and Giroux were all better in the defensive zone than Hartnell. This year Giroux, JVR, Schenn, Couturier (if he stays) and Talbot all figure to be much better than Hartnell defensively and there's the potential for Simmonds and others to surpass Hartnell in play in the defensive zone.
There is a very very good reason that Hartnell NEVER plays on the PK, he's not that good defensively and he's not that good of a skater. He's a power forward who is good in the corners and in front of the net. He isn't counted on for his play in the defensive zone.
^ I can't tell if that is a serious post or not. I really can't.
Simmonds is awful on the PK, but he's a good defensive player.
I'm not saying that Simmonds will be on the PK but but was just pointing out that Hartnell is by no means know for his defensive play. I personally think that Simmonds is at least as good as Hartnell defensively so I'm not worried about "down-grading" from Hartnell to Simmonds from a 2-way standpoint.
What's with the sudden hard on for Hartnell? I can't tell you how many times last year I would have been willing to trade him for nothing.
Scott Hartnell is a good hockey player, and he is very good at the role he plays on our club.He is durable, will drop the gloves and stick up for his mates, and he can reek havoc in front of opposing net minders etc....I have always liked Hartnell and what he brings game in and game out,,,,,,Scott Hartnell believe it or not is a Flyers Legend and will be remembered for many years long after he leaves here whenever that is ?

Hartnell is one of the few players we have on the team willing to go tothe front of the net and take a beating. The role he fills on our team is vitally important and we would have no one to fill his void. THe guy is also loved by his teammates and is involved in every PR event that has a flyer. He is always doing charity work, involved in flyer activities during the summer , and always open to fans.
I can guarentee that if we met all the flyers Hartnell would be the guy everyone liked the most.
On a different note, I personally hope we claim Ty Wishart.
We're at the contract limit, right? I mean, that's at least half the cause of the trade speculation--so we won't be claiming anybody, though I don't see how he wouldn't be an upgrade on everyone but Gustafson in the system.
any chance the flyers send walker or shelley with a pick to a team to shed salary, ala, denis gauthier.
The thought is so irritating. We had to do it with Gauthier, Upshall and Lupul. What is more insulting in the Shelley and Walker cases is that we should NOT have signed Shelley or picked up Walker (Tampa's dump) in the first place. Then of course you have Leighton's situation. Last year's offseason was just really bad apart from Meszeros and O'Donnell. I mean the added value of Shelley, Leighton, Walker, and Zherdev was about as valuable as the currency of Zimbabwe...
I wouldn't say the thread is entirely pointless since the Flyers are looking to shed salary and Holmgren and his grin kind of confirmed something is brewing but the speculation from some is pointless...but hey got to make it interesting.
Come in peace
Would u guys be willing to trade him to MTL? Moen and a 1st/2nd?
Eh, Flyers don't really need Moen IMO. They have enough "role players" who all bring pretty much the same thing to the table on different levels. We don't need another guy like that.
The other thing to consider is that Nashville is trying to re-sign Weber, Suter, and Rinne, and probably don't need another $4M contract to go with it.

We'll gladly take 1 preferably one of the defensemen
