How is Schenn looking

Kings fan just looking for an update on how he looks so far in camp. I was a big fan of his in L.A. Also, how is Simmonds looking...as good as his stats show?

Simmonds is a standout. Schenn plays a much quieter game. He looks pretty strong for a kid to me, certainly can play in the NHL and take a regular shift.

He's been pretty awful IMO. He may start in the AHL.

Completely the opposite to this. Schenn has been terrific defensively, solid on face-offs and created a few offensive chances

Schenn hasn't been flashy, but he sure as hell hasn't been noticeably bad either. I think he could manage in the NHL.

Schenn has looked average to me. He hasn't stood out either positively or negatively. He clearly has the physical tools to compete at this level though.

1 assist in four games. Probably not going to cut it.

Something like this. He's been impressive on the pk and looks pretty solid in general defensively, but he's not really creating anything offensively. He has been really strong in the face-off circle as well. If he hadn't cost 3M+ against the cap, I don't think there would be any doubt that he'd be our 3rd line center, but now that we're as close to the cap as we are... maybe he'll see some time in the AHL after all.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds like Schenn has definitely taken Murray's feedback to heart considering his defense was one of the weakest parts of his game and the main reason he was cut from the Kings last season.

What realistic? Any other rookie I can see but Schenn has so much going against him. His cap hit is atrocious, he's not that big, he's injured...the list goes on. However I do agree that his defensive game has improved from when I was watching Canada at the World's as well as some WHL games. He's really make or break at the moment.

I think Shenn's looked good some people expect a lot to soon. Simmonds though I love what I'm seeing from him, and I didn't know he had this much upside when the trade happened!

I never would've worn a #17 jersey last year Simmonds has changed that. No offense to Carter I just like players with grit.

Schenn has looked fine. He doesn't have as much to prove. He didn't need to come in and WOW everyone. That's not to say he is slacking off or anything, but if Schenn comes in and plays just ok, it's not a big deal. Whereas a guy like Read absolutely has to WOW everyone or he is not making the team. So yeah, Schenn has looked just ok, but I don't think he'll be getting sent down (unless they really are making some kind of trade, then I might change my opinion on this subject).

Funny to see that there's already a Schenn-hater.

Schenn has looked exactly like I was hoping him to be, honestly.
He's strong on the puck for a 20year old kid, he looked good on the PP whenever he got the chance, he was very good on the PK and he's probably our best face-off man righ-away and his skating wasn't an issue (he even flew by a defender in one of the games against Toronto, making a nice pass to ...Read (I guess) who couldn't tuck it in.

We told you you'd love Simmer

And if Schenn is strong defensively and good on faceoffs then he has improved greatly from last pre-season, which is a very promising sign. His offense will come around, his on-ice vision is undeniable. Might not set the world on fire pointwise in his rookie season but I get the feeling he'll be improving steadily year after year until he's a top player.

do you have any idea where he fits into the flyers lineup? or are line combinations still in the air? i picked him with my last pick in a fantasy league and i am really only hoping that he wins 500+ faceoffs, and anything more than 10g 20a would just be gravy on top. are these realistic expectations? i imagined he'll be playing on the third line with simmonds? who else would be on that line?

He's been good, no glaring mistakes that I can remember. Solid 3rd liner.

Schenn hater? I was over the moon that we got Schenn. I was sure he would make the roster with relative ease. I know stats aren't everything but as someone who followed Schenn since his days in the WHL, the staff is wasting his talents by using him as a defensive center. Sure it's clear that his defense is improving but it's not allowing him to get his offensive game going which IN MY OPINION, really hurts his chances since Read and Couturier are centers with smaller cap hits (although it looks like Read has switched to wing) I would LOVE if he made it and started to impress me like when I was watching the worlds, but so far I've been disappointed at how average he has been.
